Handshakes: part 2

Back on August 14, I showed the scanned images of this spread that opens to reveal several handshakes. Scanned images are great for resolution, but not for showing the overall view.

Here is the page and insert to refresh your memory, or to bring you up to speed if you are new to my blog.

This is the inside insert and page that is attached to the left side of the book. These are magazine images and the background is painted deli paper.

Again, left side of book page and right side of book page. I used blue glaze mixed with gesso for the background on the right.

This shows the inserted page and how it fits in the book. I am still working on the page on the reverse of the right side. When completed, this will be a six page spread of "handshakes." It seems to be a popular theme in business and trade magazines.

A couple of days ago, I was honored with a blog award by Giovanna (GiGi) who lives in Queensland, Australia. Now those of you who know me, know I need a sign on my sidebar that reads No Award Zone, or something like that. But I was so impressed with Giovanna's gracious message in response to my declining the award, I simply had to check out her blog, called She's Got Issues. And I found my nominated self in good company, along with Seth Apter (my hero), Claudine Hellmuth (who I want to make simple collages like), Alisa Burke (who paints like nobody else), and Vivian Bonder, my blog pick for February 12, among others. If I were a scrapbooker, I would want to make art just like Giovanna. Her style of art is gorgeous and I can learn so much from her incredible layouts. Of course, to make things interesting, she occasionally throws in some mixed media art that has nothing to do with scrapbooking. So please visit Giovanna today. I know you will like her blog as much as I do.

Elizabeth, you send me to so many wonderful blogs that my blogroll runneth over! Giovanna's blog is pretty wonderful. I also like her view on life.

I agree with Dianne. The gesso mixed with glaze created a great effect on your page. It seems just right in bringing out the different shades of the blue.

Your art journal is realy fantastic. And so thick. I have created one using Tesha Moore's tutorial but have not actually put anything in it. Plus I have another unfinished. Now that my 5X5 projects are finished I feel the need to get back to the Art journals. Love your handshake theme. I wonder if I should come up with a theme for my new art journal. It is smaller as I used pages from a water color tablet to make it instead of tearing up one huge sheet. It was quicker and less measuring. Plus I painted the backgrounds before sewing together. I still hate the middle spread. I am going to start there to cover up the ugly. LOL~!

this journal is getting full by the looks of the side view there...i like spreads that have additional pages added to them...and i like the theme of the handshake...i don't think handshakes are done enough anymore and cerainly the true meaning behind a handshake has died...
bringing it back (so to speak) is sorta like a historical thing...and yours are pretty as well!
now i need to go check out this highlighted blog you are sending me to

I am totally going to try the glaze+gesso combo. I have questions galore about the scanned images, but I am going to check the previous post on it first to see if they are answered there. Of Course I have to try this now...of Course.

Hi Elizabeth, thank you sooo much for this feature. I am so delighted and a little humbled by your followers visits and comments. I was nervous reaching out with the award, but now so very glad I did.

ONE QN: what is deli paper??? not sure what the equivalent is here in Aus.

I love seeing the progress of your projects, it feels like being in the studio with you- thanks for sharing as always! And I really like the way used the Gesso- I LOVE Gesso- it's so versatile (I've even used it in place of white acrylic in a pinch:)) That might be a fun post- all the different possible applications for Gesso.....
I'm off to check out your blog of the day!
