A day out and about

This is not a very exciting post, although I always appreciate my friends stopping by for a visit.

My day began with this photo of my friend Sally and her FOUR pieces of luggage. I had her all packed with two, and she added another two with shoes and four jackets. Not sure how many shoes she packed, but a lot more than I even own! I keep reminding myself what a low maintenance person I am.

I tried to get a shot of Sally and the Sky Captain moving through the revolving door under really low light conditions. Here is the original shot.

So you have a bit of art today, I changed the picture up a bit by surrounding them with a liquefying filter in Photoshop.

Next, I used a rain filter. OK, it isn't much, but I was having fun playing and it IS art.

Next it was off to Home Depot, where I was actually looking for a space heater on one of the hottest days of the year. None until September, I was told. To compensate, I got into the organizing mode.

Then I looked at dehumidifiers. I took lots of pictures so I can compare features. Tip: when comparison shopping, get detailed photos, then compare at home at your leisure.

For some reason, I was also on a tape kick.

On my way to WalMart, I saw a Target. Now don't fall off your chair, but I had NEVER been in a Target in my life before yesterday.

Although I was hell bent on buying advertised school supplies, I couldn't pass up looking at yet more dehumidifiers.

Then it was off to WalMart, where I was highly disappointed with their Rit dye selection. I have a few colors I want to try (by mixing colors), but you can see the selection is so limited, I probably wasted my time.

I didn't show my Home Depot purchase, because you saw it earlier. Here is what I got at Target. The best deal of the day were the colored pencils which were $0.50 AND you got the crayons FREE. Even the checkout gal couldn't believe I had read the sign right. Everything I bought was a little over $2.00 (about 1.26 pounds in UK, 2.03 Canadian dollars, 2.62 EUs, 2.71 Singapore dollars, and almost 172 yen). And YES, that's a pink tape measure I plan to cut up and use in pink art.

I really must be in an organizing mood because I couldn't pass up these two cute little plastic containers in the Back-To-School section that weren't even on sale, something really unusual for me. In fact, nothing I bought was on sale, so that was why the bill was so high. I won't even tell how much I paid for these, but it was well in the double digits. Just had to have the colored duck tape and clothes pins, though. Wendy was NOT impressed. By the way, I knew when I saw them how I would use the little blue containers. I am going to keep sewing supplies in one and pens in the other. Tip: always have a plan in mind before investing in organization pieces.

Today is another web site. I know it seems I've been spotlighting more web sites than blogs this week, but the reason is because when I feature a blog, I notify the artist. I go back at least five pages to make sure the art is inspirational and the blog is worthy. It takes awhile, time I simply haven't had. Luckily, web sites are easier and all I need is to check out the site and list the link. I promise to get back on track next week, when life is a bit calmer and (HOPEFULLY) the weather is a bit cooler.

For those of you who love fiber art as much as I, you will be blown away by the Fiber Artists Collective. I promise there is something for everyone. Areas covered include wall art, floor coverings, and sculpture. Among the wall art, you will find some mixed media artists, too. I promise, although my comments above might read like I'm taking a shortcut, this is one inspirational web site.

Have an awesome Friday and a great weekend.

It sounds like you had a fun day rummaging through various stores- ALL favorites of mine! I must admit to being a Target kind of gal even though I prefer Walmarts prices.
And the photoshop shots are great- I love playing with filters too!

Too funny that you went to Target yesterday...cause I went to Wal-mart. Some I never do. I was looking for a sushi bar sign for the fish tank. The only thing I bought was some Krylon spray paint for plastic on clearance.

You created an amazing look with the liquefying filter on photoshop. I also went to the web site you gave and enjoyed a beautiful array of quilts. They were some of the best I've seen.

Thanks for posting.

Looks like Sally and Sky Captain are moving through a porthole to another dimension. I have to wonder what dimension you're living if that was your first Target visit. Hope you enjoyed the experience!

I can't imagine looking at a space heater without a barf bag - yesterday was the hottest day in three years here... but, I admire you for being able to make all those stops and still feel creative about it:)
love your art, your sentiments, your energy!

So many people talk about Home Depot so it satisfied my curiosity to see a picture of one, and see that it does indeed look very much like a B & Q or Homebase in the UK !
Not sure that you would want to know, but I hate to think of your curiosity not being statisfied - Gaviscon is an indigestion remedy !

It's funny how the back to school stuff at the stores this time of year always put me in an organizing mode as well. I used to love to get a new binder, pencils, pens and dividers to start off the new school year. Things always ended up a bit messier as the months wore on but I think that lovely feeling of wanting to start fresh is a healthy, hopeful thing. What a fun post and you can find some (amazing) things at Target if you really look! Have fun Elizabeth!

Love the liquified pic. Great post Elizabeth. I take it Wendy didn't accompany you to keep you on the straight and narrow ;-)
