WOYWW 59: Rocking the night away

What's On Your Worktable today? If you're a WOYWWer, I promise to come and visit, now that my company will be gone today and all my art obligations are out of the way. I know I didn't get around to everyone last week even though I tried, but I've had company and had to clean, something I hate to do. So today ONLY, I am the If you don't know what this is all about, go to Julia's blog and find links to people who aren't afraid to show their work spaces, regardless of their conditions.

Today, as WOYW Wendy looks on, I have a postcard from my dear friend Cindy McMath which fits perfectly in the WOYWW easel. I also have my arches bound, but don't have the covers decorated yet. The coffee cup is a stencil I drew on a plastic lid back in April, and finally got it cut out. I will use it one of these days. Last week Maz suggested I put a rocking horse somewhere on my work table, so I made it easy this week.

I was totally blown away by all the people who wanted me to show my rocking horses. Now Julia's husband makes ones that are more fabulous than anything I own. You can see the post here, if you missed it. It must be a British thing, because they are NOT popular in the US, except possibly at Christmas.

The brass horse was the most asked for. It lives in my guest bedroom and it was hard to get a good photo.

Here it is and stands about 2 1/2 feet (0.762 m) tall at the saddle and about 3 1/2 feet (1.0668 m) tall at the ears.

Here is a not much better view.

It lives with a lot of other rocking horses that keep it company.

The one in the main floor bath (do you gals call it the loo?) can also be ridden by a child, but it's not as tall. You can see the seat is not quite the height of the bath tub.

One of my favorites is this stained glass rocking horse in my living room.

There are many more, but I'll let you discover them.

Did you see the one sitting in the basket on the wall in the upper right? How about the one nearly hidden by the mini blinds in the window?

Kate asked if I had made any rocking horses. Well, sort of. I stenciled the rocking horse onto fabric and framed it in the oval hoop. Of course, that was back in the 80s!

Lots in this photo on both the enamel surface and the top of the cabinet.

And these glass candle holders aren't much easier to see in this view.

Here are but two in my kitchen and yes, that's one on the second shelf.

Key holder looks a bit crooked, but it's my poor photography skills. And yes, I have tons more, but you have many places to visit, so the other 425 or so will have to wait.

I mentioned earlier that I've been cleaning. I don't love cleaning, but I do love tidy. There's a big difference in my world. If the dust settles on the furniture I'm OK with it until someone puts a hand print in it. But if something is out of place, I go a bit OCD, Maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but sort of anal. All that is leading up to someone who is as tidy as I, and that is Tracy Evans, today's blog pick. Always tidy, well organized, and beautifully photographed desk and projects, it's no wonder Tracy's blog is one of the first I get to visit each Tuesday. Tracy is a design team member for The Stamp Attic, too, so you know she's a stamper. And those stamps are probably some I would have in my arsenal if I were a stamper. She also makes stunning mixed media art, colorful journal pages, and drop dead gorgeous detailed tags. I swoon over her lovely garden, too. Tracy is from Cheshire in the UK. Please pay Tracy a visit today. Neatness really DOES count!

Lovely horses - yes the brass one is very special. I think it IS a British thing - Victorian " nurseries " would always have one.

Over here ..a bathroom contains a bath - where you bathe or shower. A loo is a nickname for toilet - watercloset in the US ? - they were called this origionally & shortened to WC. You still get this on signs in pups etc with an arrow pointing the direction.

Your rocking horses are beautiful - they fit right in at your place...Iknow it wasn't intended as a house tour - but your home is beautiful. I love your tidy. I like useful and beautiful (apparently my Maiden name of Morris counts for something then!) and my fave today is the napkin holder horse and the key rack horse. More soon, huH!

Hi Elizabeth, nice to see Wendy putting in an appearance this week ;-) Great post! Can't wait to see the arches completed. Fabulous collection of rocking horses and I did spot the one showing through the blinds. Just to let you know I used a Primula cheese spread tube a couple of days ago to cut out a flower using Tim's Tattered Florals die hehe.

Great collection!! I still have the old rocking horse (quite large) that was mine and my brothers and passed on to my kids. It's right by my washer and dryer in the basement. It's been there so long that I forget that it's there.

Elizabeth no wonder you have visitors-what a stunning home you have. I would love to stay in your guestroom but I couldn't offer you a guestroom in return as we have a spare bedroom as my workroom, a spare bedroom as a study and the attic bedroom is my DH's workroom so it's a blow up mattress on the floor or nothing! Oh your horses are so beautiful. I can see the attraction - is it just rocking horses or do you like carousels too?

That doll on your desk looks VERY interesting.

Ally Pally is a huge craft show twice yearly at Alexandra Palace in London. I am usually on a complete stash ban inbetween shows (April & Sepetember) it works out well because by the time each show comes around I am usually running on empty and have to get VERY creative with my supplies ;) It's also a lovely chance to meet up with other bloggers and put a face and voice to people I already consider friends :P I'm quite lucky in that I only live about an hour and a bit away from London.

Elizabeth, your home is beautiful, thank you for sharing it with us, and I love all your rocking horses, they are amazing!
BTW Ally Pally is short for Alexandra Palace, a venue in London where twice a year they have something called the Big Stamping and Scrapbook Show. Being starved of decent shops here in the UK we all flock to the show to see demos and samples and spend, spend, spend.

Hi there, sorry its so late, only just got back from the Tatton flower show about ten mins ago (half eight uk time). I was so so pleased when you gave me a special mention in your post today, a big THANK YOU, I really appreciate it. Enjoyed my visit to your desk today, WOW WOW you have some amazing rocking horses, I love the small one in the loo. I so love Wendy too, she should make an appearance every Wednesday. Love the arch book and postcard too. I like the fact that you make me feel normal because I am tidy, I love everything to be in its place and a place for everything. You are so tidy and a woman after my own heart. Must be a lot of dusting with all your rocking horses though. Mind you I collect hearts, anything really, jewellery, ornaments, garden products etc etc. Have a lovely evening and thanks once again for making my day. Tracy Evans x x

Love your rocking horses and loved looking round your fab house. Just called back in reply to your question...to tell you that Ally Pally is one of the most popular and biggest stamping/craft shows in England and Ally Pally is a short nickname for Alexander Palace. This was built some time in the late1800s as a recreational, exhibition centre for the people of North London and it is still an exhibition/conference centre to this day. If you want the full story look it up in Wikipedia, but hope that solves the mystery.

Well, as you can see, late to post, late to visit - but, here I am, :-) ! Now, the funny thing is - no Legend - no Tsunami - AND no Bluebeard this week! What's up with that! Well, I know what my excuse is (anniversary photos are coming!) - I guess for you, you've been busy (and perhaps Bluebeard is jealous of) all of those AMAZING rocking horses! That is one mighty fine collection you have!

That brass one is a beaut! I like the wall one that holds all of the keys and the one in the photo above it on the shelf too. Oh heck, I love them all! I don't know that I ever had a rocking horse per se as a little girl (always wanted one!) BUT I had a Tony The Pony and he was by far my favorite toy!

Have a great weekend!
