Wednesday with Dana

I seem to be two days behind on my blog. Here is how I spent Wednesday.

It all started when Dana showed me her latest obsession when we got in her car.

She kept pulling these little darlings out of her bag.

It was only 10:36 and I had already gotten some pretty awesome eye candy. Dana explained that the first one she created was the long one. She said she cut a rectangle, then cut squares for the other two. She then made the pin cushions. Aren't they all adorable? And there will eventually be enough little creatures to go around the pin cushions.

Next we took a trip to Walgreen's.

I'm not sure how these are going to post, but I'm hoping by making them small, they will save space on my blog, yet still enlarge if you want to see the photo better. The clock on the wall reads 11:15.

Of course, I had to take a photo of all the spring PEEPS. They are so cute, but I am not a marshmallow fan. Cute to look at, yukky to eat!

Next, it was off to the Household Hazardous Waste site.

It is where Dana and I get our FREE paint and other art related supplies. It is always fun to go there, but we can only go once a month unless we are dropping things off.

This place has a "Swap and Shop." If you have one of these in your area, I highly recommend going. There are so many wonderful things that people bring in and drop off that can't go into the landfill. They are offered free of charge (can't say this word enough: FREE).

Check out all the old containers they have displayed on the shelf that runs all around the facility.

Materials are sorted by usage. The automotive supplies are on the far left in this photo, paint and other supplies on the right. Along the back wall are pool supplies, photography and developing supplies, and household cleaners.

Next it was off to the downtown library, where I lost my camera. Didn't notice until we were in the car. I retraced my steps and found it on the floor in the stacks. It was pretty well hidden, so if I hadn't been looking for it, I don't think anyone would have noticed it. It fell out of my bag when I put books in it.

While there, we also checked out the used books. I told Dana before we went in that I wanted only dictionaries or books written in foreign text. I got 11 books and 4 magazines for $5.55. One of the magazines was from 1966. I was thrilled.

Next, Dana and I went to a Thai restaurant. She wanted to try their spring rolls ever since I said I was making some with my dough.

I forgot to take a photo of our food until the meal was over half gone. We shared an order of spring rolls, egg rolls, and my rice veggies. Dana got a bowl of soup and we both had tea.

Right after Dana got married, she and Richard lived in San Francisco. I teased her because she didn't know how to use chopsticks. I tried to show her how to use them, and here she is, taking the lesson to heart.

Before we left, I took photos of the cups. I need one of these for my morning coffee.

Dana wanted a photo of the Christmas tree, still decorated with Christmas finery. For some reason, she thought it was really funny.

As we drove away, Dana spotted the tree on the side of the building. In fact, she backed up and parked in the lot, so we could get out and inspect it.

While I shot more than a few photos of this tree, Dana returned to the restaurant and asked about it (and a companion one I didn't photograph). Enlarge the photo and see why we were laughing. These are silk and plastic flowers and leaves. The owner said they decorated it for Chinese New Year and didn't remove the flowers. Isn't this a hoot?

Now before you think we only played, that was not the case. We first went to Dana's and picked up an entire trunk full of things to take to their new house, then boxed up five boxes bric a brac and fru-frus. This box is filled with ceramics. I packed so many, we were nearly unable to move it afterward. Instead of wrapping each item, Dana suggested we fill the box with peanuts. So here we are, shaking the peanuts around the ceramics. I also brought more stuff home that Dana didn't want.

Along with items from the Household Hazardous Waste, the library, and Dana's, I found a bag of colored paper on my front porch left by one of my neighbors, that I can use to make paper. And check out on the floor above. It was a gift from Dana. Yep, it's a pants holder. Although I put my finds away, I wasn't able to deal with my ribbon, like I've wanted to do since forever. The ribbon changeover had to wait because spring planting was on the agenda for yesterday. I also had no time to play in my studio or with my latest "finds." However, those of you who read my blog often, know my studio is once again back to it's neat state.

Since it seems to be the time some of us are beginning to spruce up our homes, today's blog focuses on interior design. It is written by Patricia Gray, an interior designer, who lives in Vancouver. I like her use of color and the designs she shows are breathtaking. I hope you at least check out her blog for her use of color and design.

Her creations really are wonderful!
I am not a big marshmallow eater, altho I find they taste best when they get hard.
The yellow blossoms had me wondering what in the world kind of tree that was = too funny!

I can't believe how big your reuse center is!! Ours is only about 10 foot square and doesn't have nearly the selection.
