Abstract Butterflies

I want to begin by thanking my friend and co-administrator Erika for stepping in at the last minute to host a second month in a row at Art Journal Journey.  She went over and above and Mia and I are very grateful.

Today we welcome a new host, as we do every month, who many of you know.  She has hosted before and there is always a great turnout when she hosts. It is my friend Neet (short for Anita) whose blog is Hickydorums.  Her theme is It must have wings.

I created this for Neet's theme, then realized how much I hated that, as an afterthought, I stuck the date directly in the middle of the collage.

That's when I hastily decided to cover the date.  With only two hours to spare, I found a way to cover the date.  Detail shots are below.

Oh goodness.  You don't get the full effect of the abstract butterfly.

This butterfly turned out much better. One out of three is about my speed.

It's fairly obvious I can't outline anything with my shaky hands.

I rotated it so you didn't have to put your neck out, or rotate your monitor.  I love how I can rotate the security envelope and make it appear to be two different papers.

I also rotated the diagonal stripes to make an entirely different looking paper.

I began by gathering as many different designed security envelopes as I could find.  I placed one long strip the length of the page, which is 5.5 X 8 inches (13.97 X 20.32 centimeters).  I cut three squares and stamped them using my wonderful abstract butterfly stamp.  Next, I moved the cut security envelopes around the page until they fit around the butterflies. Finally, I computer generated the word to cover the date stamp and outlined it in blue ink.  Becau
Neet, Erika, Mia, Bleubeard, and I are delighted you joined us and hope to see you this month at Art Journal Journey as you share your own interpretation of It must have wings.

Please remember we welcome art journal pages that meet the theme requirements, altered book pages, canvases, loose, or stand alone pages including fabric and digital art.  I (and the administrators) cannot leave comments on Facebook or Instagram entries.  We do not allow cards!!!  We also don't allow tags, index cards, ATCs, or ATCoins, unless they are part of a journal page, and as much as we don't want to, will be forced to delete your entry.  Please remember if your blog is not in English, we ask that you translate it for us since the translation tool doesn't work on some blogs, including mineHope to see you and your It must have wings entries soon at Art Journal Journey.

I looked and lookedk at your page this morning and wondered how on earth you had made such a different background. I never realised it was from a selection of envelopes. What a great idea, and one I will try myself some time if you don't mind. It works so well and is so impressive.
Your coverup is excellent, as are your butterflies in general. I wonder where they are flying off to? Perhaps the different places the envelopes came from.
Thanks for joining me with such a lovely entry.
Hugs, Neet xxx

This is a great piece of artwork! I am really so glad years ago I by coincidence popped in in your place and learned so much! And I enjoy it every time, too. I got stuck a bit, though... studies really eat my mind up.

I linked you up to AJJ, but it was being weird for me too and not showing any link ups at first so my name is there twice, and one of them is your link up not me. Then I closed it down and reopened and now I think it is working. I linked up the 3 of us so we should be all set. I hope. I wish I could figure out how to delete the second time my name is there and linked to you just to keep it straight, but oh well, it could be worse.

I love your recycled background and those butterflies. The layering is great. Plus I like how you used blue and black. It's a fun page and a great way to start the new month. Happy May. Let's hope this AJJ snafu isn't going to plague us or be an omen of things this month. Grin. hugs-Erika

What a great idea, I really thought the background was a selection of fabrics fabulous patchwork design, the stamped Butterfly works really well with its distressed outlines. Very nice display.
Happy creative May Tracey x
