Squirrel Monkeys

I'm once again at Art Journal Journey, joining Jo from Let’s Art Journal, our host this month, and her Wonderfully Wild theme.

Today we are visiting the squirrel monkeys in Costa Rica.  I have detail shots, too.

This took forever to create.  I started by sewing the mottled green scrapbook paper to the substrate, which I cut to 5 X 8 in (12.7 X 20.3 cm).  I found a squirrel monkey in an ad for National Geographic and printed it twice using my color laser printer.  I then fussy cut the two monkeys and set them aside.

I found a beautiful napkin gifted me by Valerie and fussy cut the two flowers.  Instead of using stick glue or liquid medium, I chose Elmer's glue all, a PVA glue.  Apparently I didn't apply it evenly, because the lower left flower didn't melt into the background as it should have.  The upper flower on the right did a bit better.

I went searching for a small branch to hold the monkeys.  I finally found one that was suitable, but when I adhered it to the background using E6000, I got the top branch a bit high.  Not to be deterred, I just lowered the other branch.  Finally, I used my "black only" laser printer to print the sentiment.  I am so thankful to have two laser printers because I never have to worry that the "ink" will be damaged by water or liquid glue.

Bleubeard and I are delighted you joined us today.  We hope to see you at Art Journal Journey and hope you will share your own interpretation of Wonderfully Wild.

I didn't know the squirrel monkeys there have short tails? They sure do look odd. But I like the page. :)

Wow, what a beautiful page and I know that fussy cutting isn't your thing so I'm thrilled to see so much on this page, no wonder it took so long to create 😊. The squirrel monkeys look fabulous sat on the branches that you found surrounded by those lovely flowers - perfect ❤️. Thanks so much for the wonderful inspiration over at Art Journal Journey! Hugs, Jo x

Your monkeys are such a fun page! It might have taken you awhile to make this page, but I think it was worth the time. I like how you added the flowers too. It all works! This is a super page for Jo's challenge. Have a great day ahead! hugs-Erika

I loved seeing and photographing these monkeys and other species in Costa Rica on one of our trips. Some of them are not very shy, so they are easy to see. Thanks for reminding me of these cute creatures!

I remember back when squirrel monkeys were sold as pets. Those had long tails, though...
