Journal 52, Week 46: Napkins

I was thrilled when I saw the Week 46 prompt at Journal 52 was napkins.

I decided to start the silly season (aka Christmas) off with this spread.

Napkins are supplies I seldom consider when I'm making my art.  I have no idea why not, since I have a plethora of them.  An entire basket full, no less.

It could be that I have to climb on a chair to get this and all the baskets down.  But I really need to start utilizing these better.

I decided on a Christmas theme, so dug out several of my Christmas holiday inspired napkins.

I make no secret that I'm not a big fan of glue stick.  It doesn't stick unless you use a lot and burnish it down.  Besides that, I'm completely out of my favorite glue stick, so had to dig out some that I got several years ago when school supplies were on sale.

Having said all that, there are two times I use glue sticks.  One is when I adhere my handmade paper, and one is when I adhere napkins.

After I finished my assembly, I added the week number

and wrote the sentiment or, as Chelle would call it, the journal entry.

It's hard to see, but I also wrote the week number on Santa's hat, too.

The other journal entry was NOT written by me.  It was in a Christmas card, and I love this gal's handwriting.

One final look, while I explain I started with a recycled file folder, then added four napkins and some words.  I don't like hodge-podge willy-nilly partial images, so I used a grid pattern to lay the three napkins over the one I used as a background.

And even though these colors are driven by the season and not necessarily my favorites, I'm also linking to Moo-Mania and More for their Favorite Colors challenge.

This is Day 15 of AEDM,
and we are half way through the month of November.  For today, I created a page using a recycled file folder and four napkins.

Such a fine array of Christmas napkins you have there E!
I am amazed sometimes at how many layers the napkins can have...I peel off one two three and sometimes four to get down to the very last's lovely how they melt onto the page.
I AM surprised you don't use them more...I have a huge bin full.
Thanks for reminding me.
There is a surprise for you over at my Mapgie's Nest :-)

Fantastic Christmas collage on your file folder, you have some amazing napkins Elizabeth, hope to see you use them on more projects.

I use watered down pva glue to adhere my napkins, glue sticks i use tear my napkins so stopped using them a few years ago:-) xxx

Doh! Why didn't i think of adhering them like that lol!!! Thank you for popping over to leave that info.

20 of the cards are for OH to give to work colleagues so no postage costs. We have a size, depth and weight chart here in the UK so as long as we stick within these dimensions we can send any shape card. Shame you have to pay extra for square cards :-) xxx

Hello! I love that you used napkins and it came out wonderful. I like that you can see all 3 napkins too, that santa is cute.
That is a lot of napkins you have, you could do a whole book with just napkins.
Have a good weekend and way to go on AEDM, keep up the good work!

What a great selection of napkins in this project. Like you, I prefer a linear placement of the collage pieces. An idea for you to consider- i was once part of a napkin swap. Rather than keeping an entire package of one design, we traded within a group and got an array of images. Looks as if you have the beginnings of such an activity ready to go! Nice project!

Loooove your baskets! Lovely CHristmas selection. Is the little bird a punched out figure. It is the cutest bird I´ve seen in that size. The crown looks great too.
I´m with you on the placement of collage pieces. :)

Where would we be without napkins? Such a versatile craft item, never use them for mopping up food, simple white kitchen roll for that! Love how napkin paper moulds and sits on shapes as well as on flat surfaces. Thanks for sharing with us at Moo Mania & More.

I love the way you put all of these together Elizabeth! Like you, I have plenty of napkins that I've bought just for this purpose but find I don't always use them. I usually use Perfect Paper Adhesive for mine spread very thinly, but I like the glue stick idea - thanks!
