Freebies: better than a garage sale!

Today I helped my friend Sally in her never ending battle to reduce her clutter. We started in the basement and got through one half of one room. In the process, Sally decided several things needed to go into her garage sale box. As an aside, this garage sale has been in the works for over FIVE years and still has not happened!

She told me I could have anything that was going in the garage sale box, so I picked up a few things to use in my art. This was better than going to a garage sale, because everything was FREE!
I was playing around with my camera, thinking maybe I could learn how to take photos with my left hand so I could better demonstrate tutorials. I managed three shots just pointing to some goodies, and it is nearly impossible given the configuration of this camera. Here is a close up of two maps and two metal pieces for a drain. I think the metal looks like little hats for art dolls or even bodies for art dolls.
She also got rid of this really neat set of tools. Sally's not a tool person, and I just couldn't turn it down.
She was going to throw this tape measure away because it is broken. You can see from my finger that it is broken at the black area, but she also told me she couldn't get the tape out anymore.
After taking it apart, I could see why. The end was torn off. Don't ask how that happened, since this is a metal (steel) tape. Now I have nearly 25' of metal tape, four screws, a clip, and a red plastic "thingy" to use in assemblages. I'm tickled with just this piece, let alone everything else I got.
And here is everything. From the top: a bag of nearly 200 lunch bags that I can use in brown paper bag books, a rubber comb for applying texture in backgrounds such as paste papers or molding paste, the tape measure, the cool tool kit, maps, and the strainers.

I confess. I also got two cat collars for Bleubeard, who always wears a collar. Although tiring, it was a fun and productive day. Now I'm off to work on some ATCs I'd hoped to finish but didn't, and some other experiments I want to try. I wonder what I'll get tomorrow when I go back to Sally's treasure trove.

I would never have thought to take apart the measuring tape. you are good! and you are so dedicated to posting your projects...love to see them all! even the "failed" ones are informative, but you always seem to figure out a way to use them. I didn't know you could torture felt...it's one of those supplies that I think is for kids & I'm not sure what to do with it...you inspire me!
