A week of art: Friday and Saturday

Last Friday my friend Theresa, who lives in TN, came for a visit after surprising her father at his retirement party. We mostly vegged on Friday, looking at Altered Arts, Sommerset, and other art magazines. Then Theresa went thru my Asian ephemera and found just what she needed for several Asian pages she needed to complete for a RR she's in.

While Theresa was making her pages on Saturday, I created two pages in her Astronomy/Astrology book. I had an old Astronomy text book and found all the images in it. I am glad Theresa took photos of these pages, because I forgot to.
I wish the image was better, because this is a really cool image of the astrological signs. Since it was smaller than the page in her book, I tore a nighttime sky image and used it as the border. I added the definition for Astrology and a sun charm. This image was so cool, I didn't want to cover it with anything, thus the simple spread.
The background for this spread began with a black napkin. I then cut clear contact paper slightly larger than I needed it, then sprinkled various embossing powders (EP) all over the contact paper. I also spread some EP around with my fingers to make it look like a nebula. Next, I heated the powder, then attached it to the napkin using "The Ultimate" glue. The image of Isaac Newton, a star charm, and the definition of astronomy completed the spread.
I'm showing a portion of a page Theresa made for her Asian RR. This is not all of it, since I don't like to show work that isn't mine, but I wanted to show what I taught her to do with water color pencils.
First, when working with colored pencils, I have found that you don't need much water on your brush when blending the color(s). I even dab off most of the water in the brush on a paper towel. Also, it helps to have liner brushes for the tiny detail work. I thought Theresa was a great student and quick learner.
