Rain's Thursday Art Date: Still Life

Today we're meeting at Rain's for her Thursday Art Date.  This week, the theme is Still Life.  I don't draw or even doodle, so I don't have a lot of examples.  What I mostly have will be still life art I have found at my local art museums.

I'm not sure these first two can be called Still Life,

because this is a bit of a stretch.

I'm not sure this could be considered a still life,

or this one, either.

I think I'm getting closer,

even though this Phil Epp painting of clouds may be a bit of a stretch.

Oh wow.  I finally found a couple of still life paintings, but they were mixed in with many more.

I somehow believe others might not think this is a still life.

Although this is an abstract, I truly believe this one is definitely a still life.

And NO ONE can doubt this is a still life.

These leaves on a wall make me think they might be a still life.

I somehow doubt anyone would believe this wasn't a still life.

I had finally found the still life museum pieces I was looking for.

And this one, too.

Now let's switch gears.

I colored and fussy cut these pumpkins for Thanksgiving one year.

I welcomed spring with these tulips in one of my altered books, too.

Those cups of coffee in the lower left of the book page remind me of something Andy Warhol would have painted.

I was auditioning still life on art quiltlets.

I never could decide on a design I truly liked, so this was never made.

Next, I give you a pair of collaged pears, which I believe qualify.

T Stands For Tuesday, the blog hop I host each week has a few opportunities, like this one that honored my Grandmother (who refused to work on a quilt top in the background I purchased at a garage sale, because the points weren't even).

Granted, this may be grasping at straws, but it certainly looks like a still life to me.

And finally, this is my own interpretation of a still life I created for T Stands For Tuesday back in 2011, when I had such a puny camera.

All non-museum art created by me.  All photos taken by me.  Bleubeard was extra loving because he saw how incredibly frustrated I got trying to find anything Still Life for this challenge.

Thank you ever so much for stopping by today.  I am truly grateful to you, my friends, followers, readers, and lurkers for visiting.  Please also join me at Rain's Thursday Art Date.

Spring flowers

I'm back joining Art Journal Journey's host this month, Alison (aka Craftytrog). Alison has chosen the theme Pockets and Tags.

Today I have a page I'll soon be adding to my Scraps altered book.  Unfortunately, first, I have to find where I left it.

Note the two tags I made.

I wanted something other than ribbon through the hole, so I took some lace and doubled it, then sewed it to cover each of the holes.  Now it will be easy to remove the tags from the pocket.

For this page, I began by creating a pocket made from two pages of flowery paper.  I added the ribbon I was gifted by my friend CJ.  Sadly, I didn't sew it straight.  But that's a story for another day.  I sewed the assembly to a sheet of lime green cardstock, then added the tags I made using lace and gifted images.

I'm so glad you stopped by today.  Thanks so very much for joining me and I hope to also see you at Art Journal Journey

T Stands For What's Brewing?

Last week I told you I lost a lot of data when I turned the computer on.  I used the wrong verbiage.  I lost all my tabs that separated my various interests.  For example, the first tab holds my blog and all my challenge blogs I visit daily or weekly.  That tab I was able to reproduce easily because most of the information is on my right sidebar.

Then there's my tab on murals in Wichita.  I was keeping track of where they were, the addresses, the names, etc.  Although I'm missing some, I've been able to restore most of those, too.

It's all the other tabs that I've lost and can't be found, like projects I want to try for my Second Thursday Tutorial, projects I want to make for Christmas, and projects referring to recycling.  My friend Scott told me I should have clicked on something like renew or restore when I rebooted.  When I didn't that's why I lost everything.  It was MY fault and no one else's.  Luckily none of my bookmarks are lost, so I'm hoping they might help me restore a few of the missing files.  And thankfully, both sidebar icons are still here.  Now to our regularly scheduled post.

I decided to post something a bit different for T Tuesday because for the first time in over a month, I don't have an ATC to share.

Although we're once again meeting at my dining room table,

this time I'm joining Alison, who we know as Craftytrog, our host this month at Art Journal Journey with her Pockets and Tags.  For this entry, I have once again used both a pocket and a tag in my spread.

You can see where I got the name of the post title, "What's Brewing."  I loved the image I found in a magazine showing a cappuccino in a cup sitting on a bed of coffee beans.  As you can see, the tag started out with a gifted die cut. To complete the tag, I ran a chalk pen around the edges and the hole.

For this page I created in my Scraps altered book, I first laid down a sheet of thick yellow card stock.  Next, I used the stencil in two places that Mia sent me.  The first one turned out great.  I used a walnut ink dauber.  The second time I stenciled the image, I turned it over after I had carefully cleaned it, at which time I added the image a second time.  This time, I must have pressed too hard on the dauber because the ink spread under the stencil.  I knew I had to cover it in some way, so I found the largest used tea bag I had.  I then stamped arrows on the tea bag using Staz-on before affixing the tea bag to the substrate and covering as best I could, my mistake.  To finish, I added the sentiment from various magazines in ransom style letters.

I hope you will join us for T Tuesday and also visit Art Journal Journey

I realize this is a week early, but I want to remind everyone to be digging up your Second on the 2nd posts.  I fear if I wait until next week, it will be too late.  Please remember, the only requirement is it must have been published previously on your blog.

Now it's your turn to share your T entry this week.  The rules are extremely simple.  Your drink related post may be anything from a photo of a glass, cup, or mug, to an actual drink.  You may choose to share a sketch or a digital, hybrid, or traditional page in your scrapbook, art journal, or altered book.  Maybe you'd prefer to share a tag, or wow us with your photography.  You might choose a postcard, decorated card, or magazine image.  You might even draw an image on a used tea bag.  Or perhaps you prefer to review a place you visited, a movie, or book.  It makes no difference as long as it's drink related.  And don't forget that the more unique and outside the box it is, the better we like it.  Please tie it back here, and please link only to your T post, not your entire blog.  When you link, Bleubeard, the T gang, and I will be by to visit.   Bleubeard would also like to remind you that your photos may be taken any time, even months or years ago, if you choose.

The Wedding

I'm once again joining the talented Alison who many of you know as Craftytrog,

who is our host this month at Art Journal Journey.

Her theme is Tags and Pockets.

Magazine images are hard to photograph because they are slick and the light hits them funny.  That's especially true when it's over texture.

Here, she's holding a tag with the words

True Love written on it.

For this page, I started with a blank sheet of 110 lb cardstock.  Next, I used modeling paste through a gifted stencil.  I kept the background white on purpose, so it would go with the wedding dresses my friend Kathy gave me when she was here recently.  She had fussy cut the two sides of the dress, then used tape to hold the two together.  I almost tore the large dress when I tried to pull the two apart.  I had to go with what I had, so added the gifted tag to the woman's gloved hand.

And while you're here

a few days ago, while I was getting my mail,

my Surprise Lilies (sometimes called Naked Ladies)

had shot out of the ground.

I loved how they glowed in the late afternoon sun.

The next day

they were in full bloom.

What a glorious surprise to see my largest Rose of Sharon I had transplanted was blooming, too.

I love how they fill in around my rose bush in my Flower Bed.

Soon they will be gone, but I'm certainly going to enjoy them as long as possible.

Thanks beyond belief for joining me today, and I hope to also see you at Art Journal Journey.

Monday Murals: Black Lives Matter

It's time once again to join Sami at Sami's Colourful World and her Monday Murals.  Even though it's still Sunday in my world, please be aware that Sami's mural link goes live at 11:01 a.m. my time today.

My friend Sally told me about this mural she recently found on the way to her doctor's office.

She said it was to honor the Black Lives Matter movement.

It took me awhile

to realize this a banner, and not a mural.

It's definitely not attached to any building.

I guess this is the new culture and I like it.

This "mural" faces east on Hillside and 13th Street in Wichita, Kansas (USA).

If you enjoy murals from around the world, please don't forget to visit Monday Murals at Sami's Colourful World.  You'll be surprised how many you can find once you start looking for them.
