It's Friday, which means it's time to join Friday Smiles, hosted by Annie (at A Stitch in Time). I will not be able to join next Friday because I will be performing my co-administrative duties at Art Journal Journey where I, and the other admins. welcome a new host on the first of every month.
Let's visit Annie and the other wonderful ladies who also share their smiles each Friday. I thought I would share the last of my garage clean up photos, even though most females aren't as enamored by tools as I am.
I realize I was supposed to be cleaning this place, but I needed to cut a piece of wood at a 45 degree angle for my neighbor. Saved him using his hand saw. And I would much prefer to play with my power tools than clean and organize (wouldn't we all?)
I was tempted to use my air compressor to clean up the excess sawdust, but realized it would make an even bigger mess if I did.
Speaking of my air compressor, these are the tools I use with it. They are scattered among the long clamps. I didn't take time to make this wall neat because I can find anything I need when I fire up the compressor. Note I have stored some long boards back there because I have nowhere else to store them. I may take them to the shed later, or I may cut them up to make little houses.
No matter how many times I try, I can never seem to keep my packages of sandpaper looking neat. That second shelf is always a mess. Automotive wax, deicer, and cleaning supplies are on the top shelf and the third and bottom shelves hold items like extra antifreeze, motor oil, transmission fluid, etc. Looks like I've thrown some car wax on the third shelf, too!
My skill saw is starting to scare me. It needs a better, stronger holder.
Much better. Not only is it important to treat your power tools with respect when you use them,
you need to treat them with respect when you store them, too.
I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to get this corner in focus, when I really should have been sweeping that area!
Sweeping the concrete was easier than sweeping that piece of carpet, but I tried.
The wall that holds the door to the garage houses my starter fluid for my smoker and the attachments I can add to my outdoor hose. There are also baskets of sprayers for Neem, as well as rose fertilizer and other fertilizers. These are all things that will be used outside, except for my old school house pencil sharpener. Sorry it's fuzzy. Didn't realize how bad the photo was or I would have taken it again.
I was running out of time when I got to this wall. I keep plumbing supplies in the cabinet you can barely see under the flowers. I keep electrical in the cabinet below it, which you can't see in this photo. What you can see are all my pots for potting seeds, etc.
All I had time to do was take a few photos
of where I keep my paint rollers, screw drivers, ratchets, socket wrenches, punches,
metric wrenches, wire strippers/cutters, extra electrical wiring,
and various wood and drill bits.
This is my rather small work bench. I use the ash tray to sort and corral errant screws, nuts, beads, etc. Don't you just love the can on which I painted and drew tools (NOT)?
Now to show the fruits of my labors.
Or should I say trash of my labors. Those cardboard boxes were filled with trash, too.
I was completely finished and ready to take the trash to the curb when the rain came. The downpour that lasted over two hours.
I didn't take my camera to the clean up, but I was delighted to see when I got home that all my bags had been picked up. Other than hurting my back, even though I lifted using my knees, the clean up went well. You can see my surprise lilies (aka Naked Ladies) are nearly gone. I forgot to take any photos of them in full bloom.
For those of you who are requesting the sun, we are and have been under an extreme heat warning until Sunday. Temps expected to exceed 110 to 115 F (43.3 to 46.1 C) and that doesn't include the heat index, which could top 120 F (48.89 C)
Now a few funnies:
I am sure that most of you will not care about my garage, but I put it out there, if for no other reason, than my own benefit. Thanks for dropping by today. Enjoy your weekend. PLEASE visit Annie and don't forget to start your weekend with a smile. And if you live in the midwest in the USA, stay inside, turn on your AC, and drink lots of fluids, please.

Well done.
I hope your poor back is feeling better.
I love that grumpy cat and may try and copy some of his expressions.
I could do with you to come round and organise our workshop outside as I can't get at anything and the gardening tools are in there and yes I love them too. I have quite a variety of tools but despite my hubby having three places to store stuff he can't get it organised properly so it's always difficult to find what you need. He has promised yet again to sort it but I will be surprised if it happens lol! So well done you. Loving the funnies too. There's a cat down our street that looks just like him. Have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx
I never knew you had so many tools! Glad you did get the trash sorted and out to the curb, but sorry about your back. Love Grumpy Cat. :)
...Elizabeth, you have quite a tool collection. I was thinking, do you ever throw things out and then I saw that you do!
What an impressive amount of tools you have...what do you use them all for? We inherited my dad's and my father in laws tools as well as the ones my hubby already had so we have rather a lot....my hubby is rather a gadget man and loves any new tools.
Have a great week.
Hugs,
Annie x
I love seeing your tool shed/garage. And your tools. I've always let my husband be the tool guy because he loves using them, but for the last few years I've started branching out more. Not that I don't know how to use many of his tools, because I do. I'm starting to collect my own yard tools, like the weed wacker I recently bought. :) This is one tool I wasn't sure I could easily use being so short, but it's good to know I can manage it. Now for some weed wacking weather. Sounds like you could use it too. Stay cool. And rest that back too. And since today is the 18th, it's still 2 weeks until the new month. Summer is flying but I hope not that fast-smile. I had a student who was in love with grumpy cat. Thanks for bringing him to mind. I wonder what happened to him, and then I think of what happened to a lot of those kids. Have a great FRiday. hugs-Erika
You have tackled your garage and I tackled cleaning up my craft room. I love looking at what you have and my hubby would love seeing all your toys. I would hate having such hot weather…that’s crazy! Please stay cool and hydrated.
Anything is better than cleaning and sorting :-)
Wow you have a lot of space for your tools! Here all is squeezed into a little board in the small hall and each and every time it takes forever to find the right stuff!
Wow to your temps, really, send them over! I am already with the 28C / 82F!
LOL on the grumpy cat!
Haha, AC. We have no such thing, and we would not need it, "sadly".
Off to the balcony now - that makes another smile!Have a great Friday!
Fun to see all your tools and how you store them. Be mindful of the heat and don't do too much. I had an episode of heat exhaustion a few weeks ago because I over did it. Take care.
Your tool collection is very impressive. I don’t recall that you have ever showed a project done in your workshop, which would be interesting to see.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
It's been a while since I saw Grumpy cat, lol.
I love power tools too and use them when upcycling my furniture. The only tool I'm afraid to use is the electric circular saw, then I have to ask my husband to cut stuff for me.
Both my Dad and my husband are quite good handymen, and my sisters and I were taught to use hammers, drilling machines, etc, although I'm the only one that uses them.
The main thing is that you enjoy your garage and tools, and not if we like them! Hugs!
That is a massive job. I own all the tools here. Hubby hasn't a clue. I'd like to tidy, but then I lose stuff!
That's quite the workshop/garage and well done on what you did. Rick said WE were cleaning MY garage this fall. Which means we will NOT be getting along very well that day. We don't clean well togeether!
Goodness! You have quite a large tool collection.
You obviously enjoy your garage and tools :)
All the best Jan
Well done you! You did a great job! Now I feel I have to do that too. My hubby used to love tidying his workshop or garage. He has so much stuff and tools. It's a mess again now and I really should sort it all out, if only to know what I have and not have.
Our garage houses the trailer and the motorbike (sold but not collected yet). The car is in the carport as it is too complicated to park it in the garage, which is at an awkward angle.
I must confess that I have never used power tools. The hubby was the man to do everything. Yes, I was very spoilt.
Enjoy your weekend,
hugs,
Lisca
you must have taken a lot of time to learn to use the tools. I'd not know where to start , who taught you? It was fun for me to see your workspace... I'm not surprised you hurt your back lifting the bags... get better soon and keep making stuff!
I feel like the "nope" cat!
LeeAnna
It's interesting to see how people use their garages. We have 2 cars in ours, so there's limited space for other storage. We don't have power tools except for an electric screwdriver lol You are much handier than we are :)
I remember surprise lilies from the big yard where I grew up. Sweet.
Congrats on all the organizing and cleanup you accomplished in your garage, Elizabeth! I'm working on mine too, but I'm doing it in 15-20 minute bites. Neither Terry or I are tool people. I dearly love Grumpy Cat! Thanks for sharing him!
