I'll be late visiting today. I now have two cats that aren't well. As soon as I'm sure they are comfortable and warm, I'll be by. However, it will more than likely be very late tonight before I visit you.
Today I have something slightly different for T Stands For Tuesday. As you probably know by now, Bleubeard and I are hostingArt Journal Journey this month with our theme What's your style?
Today, February 21 is Presidents Day in the States. It is also known as Washington's birthday.
This federal holiday is held on the third Monday of February.
The day honors presidents of the United States, including George Washington, the USA's first president.
Although many believe it is a celebration of Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays (February 22 and February 12 respectively),
for others, it is a celebration of the birthdays and lives of all U.S. presidents.
There's a debate as to how to use/spell the day correctly. Because the holiday celebrates more than one president, the plural possessive spelling of Presidents' Day is the one most often considered standard. Presidents' (plural) implies the day belongs to more than one president. This is the spelling you are most likely to see used on calendars and by some major newspapers. The Associated Press Stylebook prefers "Presidents Day," while Chicago Style uses "Presidents' Day." Even Wikipedia weighed in with:
When used with the intention of celebrating more than one individual,
the form "Presidents' Day" was usual in the past. In recent years, as
the use of attributive nouns (nouns acting as modifiers) has become more widespread, the form "Presidents Day" has become more common;the Associated Press Stylebook, most newspapers and some magazines use this form.
"President's Day" as an alternate rendering of "Washington's
Birthday", or for the purpose of commemorating the presidency as an
institution, is a proper use of a possessive and is the legal rendering in eight states.
The bottom line is there's no rhyme or reason to any of it. Go with what feels right.
I created this spread to fit in my Stress Free altered book. You might be able to see the creased line down the middle of the page, which will fit nicely as a tip-in. I went to my pocket dictionary for the images. Unfortunately, I had already used Lincoln, so had to go with two other lesser known presidents.
I began by laying down two shades of brown watercolors. When dry, I adhered the computer generated letters and the "stuffed" tea bags. I sandwiched the cut images inside the tea bags, which are my T Tuesday qualifiers. I added bits of gold to the tops of the used tea bags, the individual letters, and randomly on the page. Finally, I added the date stamp (thanks Valerie) in four places. If you live in the states, you are more than likely enjoying a three day weekend. And if you live in the states, have a great President's, Presidents', Presidents Day.
Bleubeard and I
are delighted you joined us and hope to see you at Art Journal Journey with your own interpretation ofWhat's your style? which for us today is all about the very popular tea bag art. Perfect for T Tuesday, too!
It's now your turn to share your own drink inspired post this week. It can be
gifts you received, photos, a place you visited, movies, postcards, mail
art, junk mail, catalogs, books, sketches, mixed
media, drawings, paintings, handmade cards, tags, scrapbooking, tea bag art, or other art that is
digital, hybrid, or traditional, a favorite mug, cup and saucer, teapot, coffee pot, or even a wine glass. Regardless,
please share below and Bleubeard and I, along with the rest of the T
gang will be by to visit. Please link only your T post and not your
blog in general. Bleubeard would like to remind you that old photos are acceptable because they may be taken
any time, not just on Tuesday and not just this year.
To give everyone a heads up, I want to remind you to be hunting up your Second on the 2nd. I didn't want to be late for March, so hopefully I've given everyone enough time to find an old post. The rules are quite simple. Any post, any genre, any style is acceptable as long as it has been published sometime in the past. Just to also let you know, I will be using Mr. Linky because of the debacle some had trying to publish their second look this month on Inlinkz. That means, you must link your T Tuesday post before the 2nd of the month in March.
I'm sorry to hear that both your boys are poorly. I hope they will soon be comfortable. (But it is a worry for you) I didn't know it was Presidents' Day (I choose for the plural) Do people get a day off? I imagine there will be parades etc. And perhaps documentaries on tv about past presidents. I don't know... Happy T-Day, Lisca
In elementary school we always had special lessons about Washington and Lincoln on their birthdays. February was a great month for school children, since it was also Valentine’s Day, so we had cookies or something three times in only 28 (maybe 29) days. I think there was even some sort of parents’ day when we gave little presentations. I wonder what they do these days.
Two unwell cats can't be much fun and I guess you're quite worried. I hope they will be much better soon. Presidents Day for me has always been about Washington and Lincoln. This is how we learned it when we came here 21 years ago.
Hope that your cats are feeling better soon. I really enjoyed your take on President's Day. The journal page is fabulous and I really loved the tea bag sandwich. It displays the images with a vintage flair. Happy Tea Day, Kate
Oh no, I'm sorry to hear both kitties are poorly - have you seen a vet yet? All three of mine are all sick too, it's so stressful when one of them is ill but to have them all ill, or both in your case, is just such a worry. I hope they improve soon. Does Bleubeard have the same issue? I enjoyed your Presidents page, love the background colour too. Elle/EOTC xx
Aw, sorry to hear your kitties are both not well. Hope they are continuing to get better knowing what excellent care you are giving them. Your journal page is beautifully vintage looking! I love the muted aging shades of brown along with the tea pockets holding the presidents' photos. Happy T day!
Oh, no! Two sick cats. I am so sorry, Elizabeth. Poor Squiggles & Bleubeard. How timely you are to do a Presidents Day spread. I never even thought of you! But that is you always thinking ahead! Happy T Day!
I'm sad to hear you now have 2 sick cats. You must be worried. I was hopeful this morning that Squiggles was improving. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they're improving. And I do like your page and how you tied it into T day and AJJ. That was really clever. And I'm glad to hear it is pretty open how you spell the holiday today. I would go with Presidents Day, but I can see why it would be a possessive form too. I hope your kitties improve so you can have a good T day. Hugs-Erika
So sorry to hear of both of your sweet boys being sick now - fingers and toes are crossed they are better very soon! It´s great you can celebrate your presidents. There is maybe Adenauer of whom I could say he was a good president. And he is the only one and was before I was even thought of, how sad is that...
After leaving a reply on your previous post I was sad to read that now both the boys are unwell, I'm sure they will be getting lots of care and hope they will be back to their normal selves soon. Its a fantastic page, I love how you used and recycled the teabags. Stay safe. Yvonne xx
Love that you used a bunch of tea bags on this - gives it a cool look, Elizabeth. Love your vintage pictures too. The Presidents of old were the best. Great page and post. Happy T-day and hugz!
I do hope your cats are ok and feeling much better soon! I'm sure you're taking really good care of them both 😁. Such fabulous pages, I love the teabags that you used! Happy T Day wishes! Hugs Jo x
A fabulous page Elizabeth! I love how you put the presidents inside the teabags, and the gold flakes are a great addition. Hope the cats aren't too poorly, and are feeling better soon. Hugs, Alison
Oh no...hope the kitties are back to feeling well soon. I have not disappeared off the face of the Earth. Just taking a break... Take care! Happy T day
Presidents Day -- as a child, I loved the lessons surrounding Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays. I remember being so happy coloring in the mimeographed "color pages" that were part of every lesson. I love what you created. It has a very vintage feel, like a piece of old vellum that might have had the Declaration written on it!
I love how knowledgeable you are, this was a lesson for me in both American history and grammar. Love how you incorporated the tea bags into your LO. So sorry to hear your boys are poorly. I remember Squiggles being ill once before and it worried me as to how he was but now the two of them. Please pass on gentle strokes of the head and a tickle under the chins of them both. Hugs, Neet xxx

Bleubeard and I welcome you
Art, including the journey, background techniques, sewing on both paper and fabric, new experiments, photos, failures, and successes will be shared on this site. I have removed my e-mail address until such time as I can get it to work again. Thank you for understanding. You can always leave a note on my blog and I will visit you.
Please check out my Previous Collaborations link above to see what projects I have been involved in over the past 12 years. Current and ongoing projects only are shown below.
Occasionally, Silent Sunday will showcase photos of my home, neighborhood, or community. A picture is often worth a thousand words.
Feelfree to drop by every second Thursday of the month for my Second Thursday Tutorials. They are interspersed with my other Tutorials found at the link page above.
Click on any lesson you might have missed or want to review
Click on the above image daily and help feed hungry dogs and cats. You can donate cat litter, too. You simply answer two questions (one about cats and one about dogs), and whether your answer is correct or not, you have just donated kibble to help feed both shelter animals and those in need.
I will create the art, critique things I feel are important, and put pen (and sometimes glue) to paper, or fingers to keys, while Bleubeard will mostly watch, supervise, or sleep.

Oh no! I do hope they both improve--soon! I know I get nervous when Annie is acting poorly. The older they get the more nervous it makes you. *hugs*

A very presidential page. I like the sepia tone colors instead of the typical red, white, and blue. I hope the kitties are feeling better.

I wonder how many ultra right-wing, sycophantic, Republicans would love to expunge the name of Barak Obama from the honour roll.
I'm sad the kitties are poorly. I hope they're doing well and improving through the day. I wonder what happened with them :(
I do hope your cats are ok and feeling much better soon! I'm sure you're taking really good care of them both 😁. Such fabulous pages, I love the teabags that you used! Happy T Day wishes! Hugs Jo x
Stay well Elizabeth so you will be able to care for your sick kitties. Your Presidents tribute is special! I always love tea bags in art forms.
Hope the cats are feeling well soon. Aloha!

Oh no. I hope both Squiggles and Bleubeard are feeling better -- and very soon. I know how worrying it is.
Like the others I am so sorry about your kitties. I love the tribute to the presidents. Hope the kitties get better soon.
I am so sorry about your kitties. They do worry us!
