It's Friday, which means it's time to join Annie (at A Stitch in Time) along with the wonderful ladies at Friday Smiles.
Today we are visiting the pylons. Although my photos only show four, there are five. The flag is in front of the center pylon.
These memorial pylons were erected by the Kansas Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) and the Soroptomist Clubs of Kansas. The bronze plagues on the pylons are inscribed with phrases commemorating Ike's life from birth through his Presidency. They were a memorial to Ike's parents, brothers, military personnel, civilians, and one on democracy.
Completed in 1956, the pylons were originally located in front of the Museum in a reflecting pool. They were moved in 1962 when the Library was dedicated.
Inscribed on the pylons are the following:
"To this homestead divine providence brought David Jacob Eisenhower
and Ida Stover Eisenhower. They lived in piety and Christian service,
brought sons into the world, and taught them the ways of righteousness,
of charity to all men and reverence to God."
"Six Eisenhower sons grew to manhood giving honor to their parents,
to God, and to the cardinal principles of our free society. Their names
were Arthur, Edgar Newton, Dwight David, Roy Jacob, Earl Dewey, Milton
Stover."
"The men and women of our armed forces walk amid dangers, and many
gave their lives for freedom. By dedicated duty to their beloved nation,
they have preserved our God-given rights, our national honor, and the
freedom won by our forefathers."
"Sustained by Faith in the cherished ideals of true democracy, each
American works in his daily task at plough or force or machine or desk
knowing this nation will forever stand one and indivisible in devotion
to the cause of liberty for all mankind."
"From the modest home built on these acres came one destined to lead
in battle the mightiest array of fighting forces ever to wage war in
freedom's cause. The victory secure, as President he led the effort to
ensure a continuing peace for all the world."
And just to prove there are really five pylons,
I found this much better photo on the internet.
And now for a couple of funnies:
Since it's been so hot here, I thought you might enjoy a Christmas joke. It's the 10 reasons Santa needs a raise.
10. The hours, the weather, the trend toward smaller chimneys.
9. Nike won't give him a lucrative side-contract.
8. Reindeer and elves have unionised, driving up his cost.
7. New tax on flying sleighs.
6. Insurance for flying a sleigh has tripled over the past two years.
5. Needs extra cash to cover off-season gambling losses.
4. Air traffic controllers demanding higher kickbacks.
3. Cost of living increase at the North Pole.
2. Children don't leave as many cookies as they used to.
1. The Mrs. told him to.
This one is for Lisca:
A sloth calls the police to report that he was
attacked and robbed by a gang of turtles. When the police ask him to
describe the attack, he replies:
"I.....Doooon't.....knoooow...
It... all... happened..... soooooo ... fasssst....."
I will try to join you next Friday. It's the 2nd of the
month, when I host my Second Look on the 2nd link party. Any and
everyone is free to join. Any genre, any length is acceptable as long
as the post has been published in the past. I invite the Friday Smiles ladies to join in, too.
That's it for me today. Thanks beyond belief for your visit. Now let's head over to Annie's because she knows how to put a smile on everyone's faces. And whatever you do, please
don't forget to start your weekend off right with a few Friday Smiles
of your own.

Have a lovely day! Valerie
The smaller chimneys really cracked me up! 🤣
Well, yes, that was some president. Hope your country soon has a similar one! A real one and not an orange baby...
And we, as well... sadly we have no one I could say yes to (I will vote).
I chuckled ate your funnies this week. Our grandchildren have been thinking about how Father Christmas is going to visit this year with Covid around....he could well be the cause of raising the numbers of the spread don't you think?
Hugs,
Annie x
Your Santa funny was full of smiles for me-we need that now adays for sure.
Happy Friday Kathy
It's too bad we don't have a president dedicated to service.
Ha-ha. Love the Santa funny. And those pylons are cool. I was very curious about them so thanks for explaining them. FYI- I plan on getting that post ready later today. The one you emailed about. All set to go. Hope you have a nice FRiday. And some cooler weather too. Hugs-Erika
"New tax on flying sleighs"? I think you give ideas to the president, my friend. Be careful! Ha ha!
Great monument! I enjoyed your photos!
