Heading to summer camp

As I'm sure you can tell, I'm once again joining Gill at Gibby Froggett Craftations, this month's host at Art Journal Journey.  Her theme is Inspired by . . . .

and I wanted to remember going to summer camp for two weeks.  Each year, as a young girl like these TH paper dolls, I would head to camp, where we would sleep in tents, cook meals over a camp fire, and tell stories at night.  Two years we had tornadoes that were close to camp, one of which passed right overhead.

I remember saying I was planning to use a few of my paper dolls, so I've culled children from both packages I purchased, and went a little overboard on this spread.  The sentiment, " Once school was out for the summer, we headed to our camp in the forest," was used to compliment the background.  If only my camp had shown such great diversity!

I am truly grateful you joined me today, and I also hope to see you at Art Journal Journey.   There's still time to join us this month although this will be my last entry for Gill's theme.

What fun Elizabeth and great that you have taken that inspiration and still carried it with you. Don't those mixed TH Paper Dolls work perfectly together.
Camping has been part of my life for a good few years now, meeting up with friends each year for many festivals. We have seen all weathers even waking up to snow one year and a puddle the size of a pond another year!
We'd much rather use a campervan now!!
Hugs for a super day Tracey xx

Never had summer camp when I was in school, what a pity as it would be fun.
Have a great weekend Elizabeth.

Another fabulous page for the AJJ theme and using more of those wonderful TH paper dolls - thank you Elizabeth :)
And thats such a great background - just perfect for your story.
Camping is fun, as a child I did that when I was a Brownie and Girl Guide but I can't begin to imagine how scary it could be with tornadoes.
Have a lovely day and I hope your new mouse is happy in its new home and that your PC is OK too...

How lovely this page is and how fun your camp must have been when you still remember this time so well! What a good idea fpr the TH people!Well done!
My daughter at the age of 9 joined a summer camp as we still lived in Vienna that was exactly 5 kms from here where we bought our house in 2011. I never had thougth at that time as we visited her during her stay there that I will join my life in this area!
It was the best what could have happened. I so enjoy my home in the woods!
Hugs, Susi

Wow! I remember paper dolls, but haven't actually seen any up close and person for years! These are great ones. I remember working at a camp with children many years ago, and it was quite an adventure for sure! I like the idea of camping, but just without the bugs and other creepy crawlies.(lol) Funny that as a kid I never even thought about those things. (lol) Hugs...RO

Your page reminds me of happy memories at camp. And tornadoes nearby and overhead must have been very scary. We have them from time to time up here, but they are not a usual weather phenomenon here.

Love this!! Some of those children don't look so sure about camping out! We used to posh camp with the boys - in other words the tents were set up with beds, cooking equipment and a fridge! T has never camped and says he never will!!!! Hugs, Chrisx

I love this page Elizabeth. It is really clever and the background is perfect. You sure put these TH relatives to good use. And your mention of tornados reminded me of a camp job I almost took one summer during college. It was a boy scout camp in my town, and we had a tornado that summer. (WE get them here but not as often as you do in Kansas). Two of the boys were killed when a tree came down on their tent. It is sad and I am glad that I ended up with a different job offer and didn't go because that would be very hard to deal with. I myself only went to camp once as a kid. I liked the camp part but had some real homesickness issues so I decided after that I would rather not go to camp. I am a strange mix of a real homebody and someone who loves to travel. Hope your weather isn't too hot and you have a great Thursday. Hugs-Erika

This was a delightful page. I absolutely LOVE these paper dolls. The costumes are wonderful. And the expressions, as well. I have never been a camp enthusiast. My family never camped when I was growing up. As an adult, I've many friends who love camping in tents, cooking over campfires, all of it. So my husband and I went through a phase where we tried to enjoy camping, but it didn't take. We finally gave everything away except our sleeping bags which we use when company overflows with kids.

Hail, hail, the gang's all here! And headed off for camping fun. I have a set of those paper dolls, and they are useful in so many projects. I've used several for stitching little fiber/paper collages.

Ooo, a camp in the forest sounds right down my alley! Maybe they'll offer one for adults?

The paper dolls are something I haven't seen in ages. I had no idea you could buy them.

Wonderful page Elizabeth. Camp wasn’t something I ever did as a kid - sounds like you have some fond memories. I love the TH paper dolls - you are making such good use of them. So tempting to buy pre-cut images, but I have a wealth of ARTchix images to use up still from back in the day. :)

Oh, Elizabeth, I just love this. Love all the images you used and the dolls and the pink -- the whole thing! It's adorable. This would be fun framed long!

And P.S. And yes, I can't believe how destructive we are, too -- and the world. (Comment on Gypsy) and also, yes, we're excited. Baby Count Down!

You are in tornado world, I forget. We had camp in the woods or NH with a big lake - near where Erika lives. But it was Catholic camp and we had to go to church every morning before breakfast, ugh, then swimming lessons in the freezing lake. I did love the arts and crafts and gimp and gum wrapper chains we used to make. Ghost stories abounded but no tornadoes. xox
