T Stands for Chinese T

I had intended to stay home and make some art this third T meeting in May,

but the weather was so beautiful, I simply had to take advantage of it.  After all, the heat will be back in full force by the time most of you link for T on Tuesday.

I don't remember who first told me about this Chinese restaurant, but since I was on the far east (pun not intended) side of town, I decided to try it.  I had heard great things from people who had been there.

It took nearly forever to find the place, and when I did, it was practically time for them to close.  Like many Chinese restaurants in my area that are not buffets, this place closes between the hours of 2:30 pm and 5:00 pm.  By the time I was seated, it was well after 2:00.  Anyone who has ever eaten with me, knows I'm the slowest person in the room to finish a plate of food.  To me, food should be savored, tasted, and enjoyed, not swallowed quickly in big gulps.

But the waitress was in a hurry and even removed the menu before I could get a photo of it.

While I waited for my made-to-order meal, I had time to take a few photos of the now completely empty restaurant.

I enjoyed the lovely etched glass that held guard by the kitchen door.

I even managed to catch my own image in one of the etchings, something I try not to do.  Yes, that's my short, small, no-neck selfie caught for all to see.

Once I pulled myself away from the etched glass, this lovely wall hanging of a fish caught my eye.  Thread never looked so stunning.

By the time I returned to my table, I managed to get a photo of my lemon water before the waitress brought my food, a combination plate that consisted of egg roll, veggie egg foo young, sweet and sour shrimp, fried rice, and veggie chow mein.  Although I'm not a fan of chow mein, it was part of the combination dish, and no substitutes were allowed.  Needless to say, the waitress hovered, and before I could take more than five or six bites, she had presented me with the bill, the obligatory fortune cookie, and was asking if I needed a take out bag.

HMMM!  Since I hadn't even started on anything except the egg foo young (also known as egg foo yong), I would say YES.  So, even though I failed to get any photos of the food, I can assure you, it was NOT as good as several people have suggested in the past.  I fear it was because of the time of day, the restaurant's desire to get me out of there, that I felt rushed the entire time I was there, and the fact all the food was served on a single plate, with sweet and sour sauce mixing with chow mein sauce, which was soaking into the egg foo young and fried rice.  I think you get the picture (even without a picture).

What will your T Stands for Tuesday photo(s) be about today?  Food, art, sewing, painting, journaling, scrapbooking?  Regardless, share by linking below.  Photos do not have to be taken on Tuesday, and your post can be about anything, as long as you can relate it to some drink.

Happy T Day!! How awful for your first and maybe only visit here. What beautiful pictures you did got though. I don't like the sauce all over mine either, I get it on the side.
At least the weather was nice for the drive too. Stay cool, it's not getting hot here, mild and rain.
Have a great day!
p.s. thank you for visiting my blog. I was lucky my grandma had the makings for a mandala in her yard, mine doesn't have anything yet. Yes, my sister is not fond of outdoor work but she did it and was tired and sore later. My mom is such a fun mom, doesn't act like she's 64 at all.
Thanks again!

Nearly forgot again. Thanks for dropping by and leaving such lovely comments. It took me a wile to work out where autumn trees came into it, then I remembered the maple trees outside. These fiery mapels cost a fortune, so they should be a wonderful colour, but they are not native here, in fact I don't think we actually have deciduous tress that are native. We might, but I can't think of any!

a shame your dining experience was hurried, the atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely , bright and open, the etched glass is beautiful, I am right there with you about the food running together, yuk!I hate when that happens, everyone teases me about it but I am what I am, lol, I love the meal you describe though, one of my very favorites,

It is a shame that you were so rushed, because the food sounded good despite being served on the same plate. Every since I was a kid, I did not like my food touching on the plate while my DH mixed Everything (with a capital "E") together!

We are going to have high 70s to 80 today!

sounds like they've lost your business from now on, coz i'll bet there are plenty of chinese restaurants around who would love to have you spend your money there ;) have you left a review for them on yelp.com or urban spoon? i always check reviews at those sites.

I love that photo of the beautiful clouds in the sky and all the green trees. The restaurant looks really nice despite the lack of customer service. The wall hanging is gorgeous! Hopefully you'll get to another Chinese restaurant soon and really enjoy it. Happy T day!

I like the fish on the wall. It is a shame the dining experience was a flop. They should have told you it was too late and offered to fix take out or something.

That is one glorious sky photo you started out with...
I have been snapping pictures lately of our skies too...
Sounds like your waitress had plans and felt rushed which was certainly not ideal for your dining experience...
You are well camouflaged in that reflection selfie ... we need a better one than that ;)
Happy T Day ... enjoy your lovely weather!

apparently it's not a good idea to interfere with closin' time...sheesh! sorry to hear about your rude service. It's usually fun to 'go on an outing' with you! enjoyed your photos, and glad you shared. venting a little is usually therapeutic! hope you have a lovely art day today...happy T day!

That place is so nice looking. Often times you see Chinese restaurants in strip malls around here with nothing pretty or unique on the exterior.
You'll have to go back some other time with ample time to savor your food.

Hi Elizabeth,
Linked up late last night and was too tired to leave comments. This week I am on G-Ma duty with a sick GD.

I can't believe they put all the food on one plate.....yuck!

The lettuce, for the BBQ turn in boxes (the Styrofoam kind), is too keep the meat and any sauces or etc. off the bottom. Something that your lunch plate could have used....LOL. Next competition I'll try to remember to get a picture of the boxes before and after the meat goes into them.

I noticed you have already completed the CB challenge......jeeese! I haven't even started on the J52 yet, but will go see what you did for CB and get inspired!

Have a great day

A lot of places may serve things on one plate, but they usually put the egg rolls on a small separate one. Not cool to be pushed along like that. I wonder if you had asked if you could pay her and still sit and eat if she would have been less stressed? Well, if it wasn't that good you probably won't go back anyways. ;)
Happy T-Day! :)

Hi Elizabeth Sorry to hear about your dining experience. The interior of the place looks good but I guess the important thing is how they make us feel. I too hate being rushed by waiters.
Hope you have a wonderful week

Happy T Day!

I'm sorry to hear that your lunch at this Chinese restaurant wasn't all that you had hoped for. But there are other fish in the sea; I'm sure you'll find another Chinese restaurant that you like much better.

I can totally picture her hovering over you - hope the left overs were better than the experience there - BUT it did make for a fun story ;)
AND thank you for your comment and excitement about the SOC - I am too! xoxo
