Inspiration Avenue's Show and Tell Challenge: This little piggy

Inspiration Avenue is asking us to show and tell a favorite post.  I haven't played in an IA challenge for a long time, and I felt I should drop in and see what changes have been made.   I hope everyone considers it a viable Show and Tell entry, since I believe this is as much a work of art, as my mixed media art.

Lou Ann said we could share a piece of art that we created.  We could share something old, if we so desired. So I am bringing back this post I created back on September 7, 2010.  It seems quite appropriate, too, since I recently started a T Stands For Tuesday group, where you can drink anything and talk about anything.  This was one of my favorite Tea posts from days gone by.

This little piggy went to market,

This little piggy stayed home,

This little piggy had roast beef tofu,

This little piggy had none.

And this little piggy went...

"Wee wee wee" all the way home...

Totally trivial information:

Nursery rhyme words and lyrics first published in 1728.

"Marranitos” or “cochintos” is a Latin American pan dulce (pastry) brown, piglet-shaped molasses cookie that translates to “little pig.” Traditional marranitos get their spicy flavor from molasses and anise. Although sometimes called gingerbread pigs, there is no ginger or cinnamon in them.

They can be found in Mexican bakeries that sell pan dulce.

If you want to be decadent, serve them with ice cream.

These piglets go by many names: cochinitos, lechoncitos, chanchitos, and marranitos. Whatever you call them, you can’t keep them from jumping into your coffee. They also go well with black tea.

Mug and matching freshly ironed dish towel by Taylor and Ng, both dated 1979.

Who in the world would iron a dish towel other than for show!

My drink of choice this lovely Tea Tuesday is freshly ground French roast coffee with half and half.

Obviously, I'm linking to Inspiration Avenue this week and NOT to Tuesday Tea.  Thanks Lou Ann, because this brought back lots of fun memories.

I say tofu too, that is too funny,

EVERYTHING!!! I was the wrinkly thorn in her side....

great piggie t post! just love it all giggling my way through and loved your empty cup... adorable! and i never iron them either, I do find that a spray water bottle does a great job of smoothing out the wrinkles and as they are folded, they retain the shape! xx's to you and your little piggies!!

Those little piggie cookies are adorable, Elizabeth! I do love anise. My grandmother used to make tons of cut out Christmas cookies out of an anise based dough when I was small. Just the thought of it makes my mouth water! Hugs, Terri xoxo

I wonder if I ever did "this little piggy" with my grandkids? Are they too big for it at six? I'll see. Let you know later. ;-) Thanks for the reminder.

your chanchitos are soo cute!!! and they sound so yummy too! anything with molasses in it I would say! although I had never heard of these before!

One thing about clogged nozzles though - try a little rubbing alcohol - that always works on clogged hairspray nozzles :)

Happy T today!!! Kimmie

I had to laugh when you mentioned that noone would iron a tea towel except for show. It reminded me of my family. My mother, grandmother, aunts, all ironed their bras and underwear and of course tea towels! I don't though..hah..I can't imagine doing that even if I had all the time in the world!

The cookies you shared really do look interesting. Funny that there is no cinnamon in them. I'll bet they are delicious dunked.

Cute post,
Thanks~

LOVE your piggies! That rhyme is too cute! I'm sorry I haven't been around for quite some time (life AND a writing job stood in the way of blog visiting) but here I am... and you are still here too, thank goodness. Hope you're doing well!

Dear Elizabeth,

The piggy cookies look lovely and the story with additional information was also a real treat. I should tell daddy to make some, especially as I like molasses.

Wishing you all the best,
MK

oh my goodness, these little piggies look delish! ...and a trip down memory lane, as that little rhyme is one that my parents recited to us as they wiggled our toes. then we got tickled on the 'wee, wee, wee' bit! I did it with my children and grandchildren...I don't recall seeing these cookies before, but maybe my memory is just poor! loved revisiting this classic! and maybe I need to look up this recipe...
