What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday # 85?

I want to begin by apologizing to EVERYONE who left comments last week. I didn't make it very far down the list (I think somewhere in the mid 40s) before the bottom fell out from under my world. I had a water pipe break in my basement studio and the devastation is unreal. Between sucking water, dealing with insurance people, more insurance people, insurance agents, restoration specialists, and packers who are moving the contents of my basement studio to their warehouse, I have had NO time to visit anyone. My days are filled with men in my basement and packing my art supplies. So I hope that Julia, keeper of the links, doesn't throw me off the list. My time is simply not my own!

As for my desk, I started a few collage backgrounds for One World One Heart gifts, but you see I haven't gotten very far with them.

Of course, I know you really came to see the rocking horses, so here is one of my favorites. Sorry for the poor shot, but this little guy (yep, this one is a guy) normally lives in an alcove where there is little light of any kind. He is trying to get away from the light. That's because he wants to protect his fabric body and fibers that are wrapped around the wire rocker area (click to enlarge).

I also received this iris folded card from a friend who bought it at a craft show. The card and envelope came in a baggie, which I forgot to remove before I took the shot. Although I don't technically call this one of my nearly 450 rocking horses, I thought it was a cutie and wanted to share.

Again, I am very sorry I haven't been around to visit. I'll make it up somehow, but it probably won't be before the weekend, when the guys who are destroying my basement studio are gone.

Elizabeth has men in her basement... LOL better than bats in the attic? There isn't a soul on the list that would hold your non visit against you, you have an amazing record!! Hope the packing away has gone well? Where will you do your crafting now? Kitchen table?

Ahh- I hope that those basement-dwelling men can get things dry and restored quickly. I've only ever dealt with something like this in an empty house, and I can't begin to imagine how disruptive it must be in your home. Hope you get a chance to sit and just be with a restorative tea or two.

Some girls would be happy with men in their basements! Sorry to hear about your troubles, hope you get it sorted soon - and the damage is not too lasting. Love the rocking horse today, he's great.

oh dear, i hope none of your stuff was damaged.

cute little rocking horse, i completely know how damaging sunshine can be, and i'm not talking about sunburn. The sun here is so strong that you cant leave clothes on the line more than an hour or they become sun-starched normally with a bleach line across the fold over the rope.
the card is very cute
hope you get back to normal soon

I have been thinking of you and hope you get straight soon. I also hope that none of your original art work has been damaged. That may be worse than losing supplies. I hope you will be well compensated for your loss.
The collages you have made look really interesting and looking forward to the finished pieces.

That rocking horse is beautiful! I can see why he would be stored away where light can't get him, you would want to have him around for as long as possible!

Aawwhh! that is going to curb your creativity. You'll have to keep a nucleus of stash somewhere in the house so you can carry on crafting whilst the basement is restored.
Hope the 3 tiny rocking horses I sent arrive soon!

Those backgrounds are coming along beautifully- I can't believe it's almost time time for OWOH again, and I can't WAIT! I haven't specifically decided *what* I'm giving away yet, but it's been percolating in the background.....
Hang in there, it's almost impossible to get anything done when people are working on your house- this to shall pass!

I'm sorry to hear about your basement. Don't worry about us, everyone has a crisis once in awhile. Take care of yourself and your basement and come back to visit when things settle down, or dry out as the case may be!

Oh no, that sounds all very distressing. I hope nothing precious was destroyed.

I love the idea of collecting rocking horses - they are so cute and evocative of childhood.

I'm sure the one world receipient will be very pleased with one of your collages.

Hope normality returns to your basement soon!

Hope things are drying out and that you managed to rescue all your work. It must be devastating to have all that damage.

Oh Elizabeth, what a disaster.
I know the mess that it can cause because I had a flood when the boiler burst in the flat above me. I ended up have to have the whole room redecorated in the end.

I hope the burst pipe didn’t cause you too much damage, especially to your craft stuff.
And I sincerely hope that Bleubeard didn’t get his paws wet in the upheaval

Oh gosh, sounds like you have had a traumatic time of it and now you've got men in the basement - I've no idea how you can eradicate them, bugs & spiders, yes, men, no! Hope everything is being repaired and 'normal service will be resumed' very soon. And thanks for the weekly rocking horse fix, you haven't disappointed me again. I'd count the one on the card if you display it somewhere - it's lovely. Regards, Elizabeth #78

Having many men around is good for the ego - except when they are workmen tramping about and making messes that they have to clean up. So sorry to hear about your burst pipes, but it is a perfect opportunity to learn about your rocking horse collection. Thanks for sharing.
