July dress for the Project Dress Up 2010

Independence day is as American as apple pie and baseball. It's celebrated in the US on July 4th. When I found this fabric way back in February, I knew I wanted to use it for a July 4th party dress fit for a back yard bar-b-que or pool party. It's the perfect outfit to wear to the park if the back yard gets too small for all the guests. The bursts of red and blue remind me of fireworks bursting in the sky, also an American July 4th tradition. This two piece skirt and halter combo will go easily from the heat of the day to the nighttime fireworks.

I have not put this two piece skirt and halter top on a hanger yet, because I'm not sure how I want to hang it. The halter is made from fabric ribbon and stickers, and trimmed in clear Stickles and teeny, tiny buttons. Button holes were drawn on using a black Sharpie. Sorry it's all bunched together. It wouldn't all fit on my scanner otherwise.

The back of the halter is plain with lots of Stickles glitter in the "cup" area. The buttons will release the neck strap and create a strapless halter top.

Just think. We're over half way through the year and I still haven't finished my cabinet. Who would have thought when Margaret suggested this collaboration back in January, it would have been so popular. I want to thank Margaret at Alice and Camilla's once again for keeping the links and for being such a great hostess. Be sure to check out all the lovely dresses the players make this month. You won't be sorry you did.

Now I can see why you left a comment saying that you're not a stamper! I wish I could sew like that! I'm definitely going to learn that one day. It would be so nice to be able to sew ATCs. And I should explore the world of altered books too. So much to learn out there. Your work is beautiful.

Love your 2 piece! You make me want to sew....it could happen. I love your studio companion. I have always had a seat in my studio for my handsome man kitty. Otherwise he finds one on the table! :)

That is really fun.I went on and read much of your blog. I am very new to all this (though I have been lurking for a few years). I think you are truly an artist, and I am not saying that lightly. I love the way you experiment with different techniques and mediums...very inspiring. I also noted that you have arthritis. I am disabled with severe fibromyalgia and a pain condition called RSD. It was good to see that others have to modify what they do. I just finished wrapping a bunch of ephemera to swap with a friend and I am done for the day.

This is babbling...but, thanks, for this look into your life. Stop over and see us, if you would like. My daughter and I do repurposed jewelry but we also dabble in many things.

Absolutely fabulous, I want to wear it!
Very clever the way it all comes apart to be a multi purpose outfit :-)
I still haven't decorated my wardrobe either, are you dithering with too many choices of styles to use like I am?
I think the fact that it is going to be displayed in my bedroom will be the deciding factor, I'll have to decorate it to fit in with the colour scheme, or maybe not, maybe a contrast...aargh too many choices LOL!
