When Dana met Sally

I'm suffering from lack of sleep. From Monday morning, through Wednesday night/early Thursday morning, I was unable to sleep, other than a few minutes Tuesday morning (and I do mean minutes). I kept getting phone calls, most of them wrong numbers, so I gave up on sleep. I was able to get about three hours this morning, so I'm hoping a better sleep pattern, which seems to have evaded me for days, will finally be restored.

I had planned to write a tutorial for today, but that didn't happen. So, stay tuned for that.

The "real" day began when I started making these. I was simply puttering until Sally picked me up to take me to Dana's. Dana was suffering from food poisoning (no, it wasn't from me), but I wanted to take some packing materials to her, so we could start packing in earnest as soon as she feels better.

It took me awhile to get my camera out for the meet, so I actually didn't get a photo of Dana and Sally meeting. Both were educators, Sally the school psychologist where Dana's children went to school, and Dana, the art educator. Sally met Dana's two younger children, because all three were in the gifted program, something Sally tested for.

Here they are checking out boxes. Sally discovered a flat rate box and decided it was the perfect size she needed. Dana took larger ones from Sally. A good exchange.

I hate posed photos. I guess that's why this one had such a horrible color imbalance.

Dana explains where to put the boxes.

Sally (left) and Dana getting to know each other. I can tell Dana still feels rotten, although she's trying to put on a good face.

Kathy brought both Dana and me gifts on Friday, so I presented Dana with hers.

Here she is opening it. I have proof that I gave the gift to Dana (grin).

Dana inspected both the front and back.

Then she got a phone call and my camera refused to cooperate.

Here I tried to adjust the balance, color, and brightness in Photoshop. It was still a lousy photo. Reminds me of a saying one of my professors used to say in a programing class: "Garbage in, garbage out."

Providing I can stay awake throughout the day, I plan to:

1. finish the tutorial I started
2. work on cleaning and organizing my basement studio
3. stay off the computer
4. read a craft book
5. begin a new art project

Today's blog spotlight belongs to a dear blog friend, Mary Hunt at Working Projects. Mar was possibly the first blogger to leave me nice comments, and she did it consistently. Back when I started blogging in earnest, she was one of my biggest supporters with both words of praise and words of encouragement. Mar works in stained glass, art journals, painting, and mixed media. She is now trying to get back into her art, and is paring down on some of her glass supplies. If you love stained glass, or have ever wanted to try it, Mar is the one you want to see. I bet she'd even help you with tips on your project (if you're a newbie to glass), if you took some of that lovely glass off her hands. Be sure to check out her blog.

I've been a reader here (yep, I lurk a lot) for probably a year now. Anyway Mar also befriended me when we were in an online class together. She has always left comments and encouraged me. She is a wonderful glass artist!
I also wanted to say that I love how you are now spotlighting other artists and I have visited just about everyone of them after reading your description for choosing them. Keep up the great work. And I hope you get back into a better sleep pattern soon.

Elizabeth - get yourself to bed. I don't know about you - but there are times I turn the TV on, stretch out, and the TV lulls me to sleep. Many times I put a timer on the TV. I have no idea if you have a TV or not but any kind of white noise will work - which I am totally convinced you know. Take care, girlfriend, and I so loved the Sally met Dana story! Nighty night.
