Second on the 2nd: ICADs revisited

I thought I would revisit ICADs today, since I started them yesterday.  Although I have been making these since 2011, I thought I would return to last year's post.  This is the first one I made in 2015 and what I wrote about it on June 1, 2015:

It's time for the Summer of Acronyms

Today officially marks the first day of summertime art and the Summer of Acronyms.  Each year I join two art related events: SOC and ICAD.  I warned you it was a summer of acronyms, with SOC standing for Summer of Color which is hosted by the adorable Kristin at Twinkle, Twinkle and ICAD, standing for Index Card a Day which is hosted by the colorful Tammy at Daisy Yellow.  Both SOC and ICAD are in their 5th years.

I'd like to begin by saying I'll be linking to Kristin's blog each week (sadly, SOC ended at year five), but I don't think Tammy uses links anymore.  However, I understand if you want to show your ICADs, there is a Facebook, Instagram, twitter, Tumblr, and Flickr group you can join in lieu of the links.  Sadly, I don't belong to any of these other social media sites.

I'd like to add that I am NOT following the rules that Tammy has laid out this year.  She insists we must us an index card.  I can't see going out and buying something (even as inexpensive as an IC) when I have the perfect replacement or substitute in the form of many, many, many, many old manilla folders.  I swear the more of them I use, the faster they multiply.  She DOES admit that some of the Index Cards feel like manilla folders.  So, not only will mine FEEL like manilla folders, they have now all been cut to 3" X 5" after originally starting life AS manilla folders.  Every penny saved is another one I can spend on Ramen Noodles (this is an inside joke meant for those of you who know how much I love those noodles).

Here is my first ICAD of 2015.  I won't be using any of Tammy's prompts, but will make this the Year of the "S"s: scraps, stamps, staples, sewing, and spray mists (my handmade, of course).  My goals are to not use any glue on these ICs and learn to stamp a bit better.

So summer has officially begun with my first ICAD.  From now on, I will post a week's worth of ICADs every Friday, except the remainder of this first week, which will be from Tuesday through Friday.

____________________________________________________

Now it's time for you to link your second look on the 2nd.  The rules are quite simple.  All you have to do is bring back a post that you are especially proud of, one that is relevant to current events, or one you shared before anyone knew your blog existed.  Then link below and Bleubeard and I, along with other Second on the 2nd friends, will be by to visit.  If you are new to Second on the 2nd, and your blog post permits only GOOGLE+ responses, I (and several others) can´t comment on your entry.  It's all in the way you set up your blog responses.

Please be aware this link is only open for five days, so it's best to post sometime on the 2nd.

Have fun with the ICADS again! I will have fun for sure with your postings and the pieces you will come up with that month!
Happy start of summer - I really hope it returned back to the normal now in Kansas with the weather Elizabeth! My father had nearly the same problems in Upper Austria the last days - we here were lucky till now.

I love your ICAD. It does look like fun. Too bad about SOC. I had just discovered it and then I found out it was ending...oh well. I hope next week when I finish all my yard work and maybe school gets a little more quite (why is it the end of the year, when you think it should be winding down, it always gets really busy?) Have a great day. Hugs-Erika

Interesting to see what you did last time and how you will do them differently this time.

The ICAD challenge is a little to intense for me. :) I enjoy seeing yours each year. I'm sad that SOC is over too. I had forgotten that she wasn't going to do it again so I went searching to make sure I hadn't missed the start date. Bummer!!

I am not doing ICAD but I am making Rolodex art cards every day -- and asking my pals to make me some too. It is a lot of fun. i like your card.....I added a link but it isn't an ICAD link--but it is a second look....as it stopped raining there yet?

Elizabeth -- thanks for jumping over to my blog and leaving such a nice comment -- but those envelopes are not re-nade -- I make each and every one of them myself with book, magazines pages, menus, flyers, maps, etc and after making the envelope I decorate them.....just wanted to clarify. Re-use and re-purpose is my thing....and I like to make everything myself...

Can't wait to see what all you create this year. I need to get a bit more disciplined about my creative stuff again. Everything is at loose ends around here :(

I'll have to remember that for August 2!

ICAD's are such fun and you're off to a great start E.
Lots of rules are often a turn off for me and stifle my creativity (spoken like a true rebel LOL).
File folders have such a great feel and certainly are useful.
You go girl!
Happy June

I like your attitude to the ICAD challenge. I actually found the rules a bit confusing this year (multiple "rules" that you don't have to keep to?), so I like that you gave them a miss. Also liked that you made your ICADs from folders you had, good for you! And I love the one you show with all the S's.
Looking forward to seeing your ICADs this year.
