WOYWW 152: Pounding frustration away

I'm getting ready to pound away some of my frustration. OK, maybe not, but it sounded good. I was asked by several people to explain flower pounding, so I'm going to create a tutorial that will be ready tomorrow (Thursday, May 3). You know my tutorials can get too long winded for a WOYWW post and I always want to stay on Julia, our awesome hostess's good side.

Also on my table are a couple of large sheets from Day Planner packaging. My neighbor Sally gave it to me, and I anticipate it will have lots of paint on it before I remove it from my table.

I still haven't dealt with that wooden rocking horse, and WOYWWendy was hiding in the tool container until I found her in our favorite "hide and seek" game.

But the most wonderful thing on my desk is a lovely silver rocking horse I got in the mail on Monday. The package was damaged in the mail service, had been re-packaged by USPS (our postal service), and came with a note saying every precaution had been taken to ensure this got to me unharmed, but blah, blah, blah and here it is!! The package was SO damaged, they were only able to make out the majority of my address, but not my name, and none of the sender's name or address, except it came from the UK.

I immediately thought of Jude, who sent me a gift last Christmas. We both assumed it was lost and gone forever. I have left her a message on her blog and am eagerly awaiting an answer. I sure hope this came from her, and if it did, I will gladly update this post with that information. Regardless, I will love and enjoy it, my newest baby and addition to my "family."

Thank you beyond words, Jude, because I'm sure this beauty came from you!

Hi Elizabeth! What a great addition to your rocking horse collection! I have my WOYWW post ready and waiting..... hoping Julia stays up late so I can get in before triple digits!! It's a work night for me and since I have to be at work at 7:30 a.m. I usually don't stay up late.

The flower tutorial sounds interesting. How fun to find a craft where you can take out some frustration and enjoy pounding. I tried tin work and my poor Daisy was totally freaked out by all the noise so I sold all my supplies and stopped. Her happiness was more important.

Happy WOYWW
Hugs,
Kay - no # yet but I'm sure it'll be huuggee

Elizabeth, I look forward to the flower pounding tut. I am "working" on my altered book, but I didn't follow directions and by the time I finally got my clump of pages glued together so that I could cut a niche, I found it was only 3/8" thick and I haven't found anything just yet to go in it. I've been to a few second-hand stores looking, but so far no luck. I talked with my 4 year old granddaughter who loves to do art with me and she thinks she might have some fake food in her play kitchen that would fit in my niche.

I will post and link to you when I have made a bit of progress.

What a great surprise in the mail - so lovely,

xoxo

We always remember you and your rocking horse collection. One day, a rocking horse from the Philippines will arrive! WOW sounds like you have had an interesting week so far what with finding WOYWW Wendy hiding in the tools, USPS bringing the silver horse and now you are into pounding flowers...oh my! I haven't been out in the yard much but have gotten most of the planters and pots fixed up. I bought tomatoes to go in the garden but it has to be retilled cause the storms etc have kept it too wet when I had time to plant and now it has overgrown a bit. Have a great week. Vickie #91

Looks like a good way to vent....ah a sweet story of reunion - how can something so small be so traumatised? BTW - not a Julia stalker - was awake until 5am due to a bad cough and hiding in the kitchen to give a hubby a break! Just woken up for lunch! All names going in the hat for the mag! You're in. Enjoy WOYWW and your week, Sarah at 1.

Flower pounding is cool! A good way to get your frustration out as well as come up with some lovely colors. Are you doing it on fabric or paper? I guess I had never thought about doing it on paper, but I assume it will work, but perhaps a bit different results. needlewings# 20

Your little rocking horse is so cool, and what stories it could tell if only it could talk. I hope it is the long lost Christmas gift, that would be cool if it found its way. Is flower pounding to get the flower to leave its color behind and basically become one with the paper?

Alexandra said...

I only own one hammer...hmmm...lol. I love your rocking horse, too! Beautiful. :)

What did those poor flowers ever do to deserve pounding?!?!? HA! I have no idea what this is about but, like everyone else I'm very interested. The things we do for art's sake! Well, actually flowers and berries were (and still are) the first pigments used for painting.
And, sometimes USPS comes through, huh? They are trying harder these days since they are in fear of losing their jobs. No matter, we finally get good customer service!
Have a great week!
hugs!

Just been looking at your tutorial and it seems a great way to use some of the flowers I need to remove from my petunias (I want them to grow more before flowering their heads off). I am not doing very well in getting round to everyone again this week. I am doing this in between checking to see if the bread is risen enough for the oven. Life is just so hectic at the moment, and now I am thinking of all I need to do before we go away soon, and make sure that everything is back in the caravan where it belongs. Thank you for your visit and kind comments. Over here, if a tree is deemed to be of any visual environmental value, it gets a preservation order slapped on it to prevent the owners chopping it down. Even if you want to just prune it a little, you have to get special permission and use approved tree surgeons to do the work. Right, off to check the bread again. Have a good week. xx Maggie #93
