Farm Fresh

 

Bleubeard and I are back with another journal page for Art Journal Journey.

Farm Fresh is the title of this latest collage.  It's an example of both our themes, which are Collage Fodder, Food and Drink, or both.

The inspiration for this journal page came from my mailbox.  The farm fresh card was a bit of "junk mail" that told about food insecurity.  I almost put it in an envelope and sent it on to my friend Mae, who often talks about food insecurity.  After reading it and looking at the image, I decided to keep it.  I only wish I had taken a photo of the statistics on the reverse side before I decided to use it in my art.

 

The scariest message on the reverse was the question, "What if you only had this can of corn to feed four people?"

I began by coloring the substrate with green and blue watercolors and water soluble crayons.  I then adhered the card to the page and colored around the card to match the substrate.  I fear I colored inside the can a few times.

Next, I found some collage fodder in the form of a security envelope, a banana label and an avocado label.  I  then colored a sheet of paper using a water soluble crayon.  I wrapped it around the slide holder, then created the assembly.  Once the assembly was attached to the page, I added a flower I colored a mustard yellow using two watercolors that I combined to give it a mustard color.  I placed a tiny sea shell in the center of the flower.

Finally, I added the word "important" I computer generated, along with a bread tab that I purposely stuck out over the edge of the page.  

You might have noticed there is no date on this page, even though there was ample room.  This was actually the first page I created.  I then put it away and forgot about it until just this week when I stumbled onto it.
