I'm late. I just got home, although I took these photos earlier today in preparation of WOYWW at Julia's Stamping Ground. Julia's already posted, so I'm going to post this fast and see if I get a number under 98 (grin). I spent the day with my friend Kathy who lives in another town, and I just got home.
On my desk is gesso. Lots of gesso. The container on the right is my old and nearly empty jar of gesso. Apparently, Hobby Lobby, a craft store I buy my gesso at, no longer carries that brand or that size. So I had to go with a larger tub. Next, I'll be off adding another layer of gesso to my altered book cover, that is, once I get the lid open on that tub!!
I know the real reason you stopped by is to see my latest rocking horse. It will look much better once I paint it. I'm considering it for the cover of my Rocking Horse AB. Now please join Julia, show your desk, get a number, use your number in your comment, and have a super WOYWW.
Not sure you can tell, but the heater in my craft room has not been turned on in at least two weeks. It's like not-quite-spring here.

WOW, that's a BIG jar of gesso! Will it last for ages or do you use it a lot?
I am ... Number, ah? 10 maybe? Forgotten already, but I am next after you! Happy WOYWW!
OMG! That is a HUGE pot 'o gesso! And a horse, of course. :)
Happy woyww!

I wonder where I could get a tub of gesso like that. It is mighty handy stuff. No spring here. A major dump of snow but it is kinda warm.
That's the biggest pot of gesso i've ever seen, how did you get that home!!!!! love the rocking horse, Hugs May x x x
wow, that is a BIG tub of gesso! gesso here is so expensive so i only have a very small tub. and your cheap paints in the previous post is also something i wish were available here.
I would have to get help to open that new jar.....LOL I can never get them open.

Hello there. I think I'm going to link up with Julia even though it's only Tuesday evening here..... hmmm. I like Mary Ann's comment above -- I'd have the same problem of opening that huge gesso container!
Happy WOYWW
Kay
Well, I hope gesso doesn't freeze. That's a whole lot of frozen white stuff, lol.
Happy Woyww,

That's a huuuge container of gesso! It'll either last you years or you'll use it all up in a week! I'm really liking this not-quite-spring too!

Wow, you must use a lot of gesso...I guess the altered books must use up quite a large amount!
I would need DH to open that tub for me!!!teehee
Good grief girl, do I need a Gesso pot that size? I only have this one that fits into my hand...
Love your rocking horse, he will be fabulous on the front of your AB, I am sure. That was a question I was going to ask... do you do all the inside pages and niche and stuff and then at the end do the covers? Just that my covers tend to be a tad fat and now I see your rocking horse I am presuming yours will be too!!
I am woyww-ing this week... Chris is home... too much stuff to do so I am going to sit this week out. I have an AB to prep as well... which is making me very nervous... why I am nervous about ruining a book I bought in the thrift store? LOL
Poop... should read I am NOT woyww-ing this week... see the brain has gone... I know not where...
Oh and I am posting your parcel off to you finally...
oh and thank you for the G45 link but I can't do it... the girls on that DT intimidate the life out of me... I also found that doing DT work killed my mojo... it was the you have to make a Valentine book... you have to make a Christmas book... we need... it drained the joy out of it for me but I am chuffed to bits that you thought I could apply!! ;)
It's very early morning here in Finland, and I'm #37! Gesso is also here quite expensive, one litre is about 18€, which is over 20$...
Have a nice day!
Tuire xx
Great work desk with Gesso playing the leading role..........
well hun that pot of gesso should last you a while especially if you can't open it...lol.hope your well have creative week and love the wee rocking horse
hugs judex 35
I asked about gesso from our local hardware store and they recommended enamel paint in white. Ugh, I still dunno what to get as an alternative.
Oh no what have you started by showing us that large tub of gesso. We're all going to be guessing how long that will last you now.
Happy WOYWW
reckon that gesso will keep you going for a while, hope you not too cold without your heater,x
What would we do with our Wednesdays if it was not for the wonder of WOYWW? It's always fascinating to peek through the window into your creative arena so thank you. I Hope you have a good week.I need that size gesso!
Neil (#47 ish)
What a cool rocking horse! And such a large tub of gesso...Thanks for already stopping by - I had wanted to post a pic of my camera for you after your lovely comments about my photos of Kew, but blogger wouldn't (it's mainly affecting people who use Internet Explorer apparently, hope blogger sort it soon, I'm not changing browser for them!)
I'm def one of your rocking horse followers......love the latest one.
Hugs,
A x
Hi Elizabeth, that sure is a huge tub of gesso! I don't think wall putty is the same as joint compound. I'm also looking for joint compound here and have not been able to find any. Maybe it's just the labelling? If I find joint compound, I'll tell you if it's the same thing. I think it's great that you'll put the rocking horse on the cover. I still haven't decided on what to put in my niche!!! Patsy from
HeARTworks
How about wall putty if it's available there? Patsy from

Try wall putty, that's what I use! Patsy from

Your desk looks busy with all these gesso pots. Love your rocking horse. Thanks for visiting me and have a happy WOYWW. xFranka
Well you are well under 98 this week - I seem to be stuck in the mid-50s. Still it's about taking part so I'm not that bothered (she says unconvincingly).
Love the rocking horse and I think it will be just right for your cover. Narrowed my theme down to 5 subjects now so will be sorted by the next lesson, I think.

...looking fab so far...and those lids can be a bit of a bugger to open at times...cant wait to see finished item...Mel :)
I was unaware of altered books until I visited your site. This is facinating. I look forward to seeing more. Thank you, too, for visiting my site and your kind words of support.
What a big tub of gesso ... can't wait to see what you do with it. And love your rocking horse, what colour is it going to be? Happy WOYWW

OOh I picked up bargain pot of gesso yesterday. The only ingredient I didn't have and not so big it was a bank breaker...this is exciting. And no, the book on my desk isn't to be altered...I'm starting way less ambitious than that!!
Looks like you've got spring coloured light at the window.. I hope so. It's all over the place here, chilly yesterday (about 4C), damp today and about 7C and by Friday, its forecast to be 17C!! Like the naked rocking horse...he's a perfect cover piece.
Love the tub of gesso, don't forget it can double as thick white paint. So you have probably saved money by buying the large tub.
I've never come across Gesso, must look it up. I learn so much visiting you all, I tell you. Enjoy this week's WOYWW snoop around the world. Take care Zo xx 81
If I had that much gesso, I might have to do my walls!
Blimey what a HUGE tub of gesso!!! I know what would happen if that was mine..... i'd get loads of it around the lid, where it would dry rock solid, and then i'd never be able to open it again without a chisel!!!! Thanks for sharing! Trish #63
I have still not tried using Gesso on any artwork. That is an amazing tub! Thanks for sharing! Caro #9
I think I will start with a much, much smaller pot of gesso!
The little rocking horse is so cute! I look forward to seeing how you will alter him! Somebody suggested to me to put Saran wrap (cling wrap) under the lid for the screw off jars so they will open easier. I put the cling wrap on my jar but haven't tried to open it yet.
xoxo Karen #93
That is a lot of gesso but I am not sure what you use it for. Thank you so much for your visit today, and the kind comment you lfet for me. Have a good week. xx Naggie #11
Just wanted to check in and see what you're up to. I picked out what I think is a sewn book so I need to go back and try to join in this AB project of yours. Does Gesso go bad? I bought a huge jar long ago in the hopes of using it and I can see it has separated a bit.
can't wait to see the finished project
Love the rocking horse - will be interested to see how it develops. Are you sure you've got enough gesso now - lol! - (Hazel, WOYWW #107) x
Hi Elizabeth, thanks for your visit and I really do think my gesso is at least as big as your gesso! It's 1 litre!?!?
Your Rocker will look good on your AB. I forgot to add that when I got home from collecting my book at the airport I realised I had also left my crochet work in the front seat pocket with an almost finished scarf in the expensive silk/wool I use!! Doh! I let that one go as it would have cost so much in time and money to go back yet another time.
JoZarty x
wow, beautiful work, just amazing.I'm new to this link party, its so nice to meet you and follow your work!
Mmmm... like the rocking horse you have there for your cover. Will he get a coat of that gesso? Must say, my gesso is not so big a pot, need to get some more though as mine is a cheapish one and I do fancy a much better type. Also fancy some black!
Thanks for visiting me and mentioning Bleubeard - I really have missed him.
Hugs, Neet xx 33
Loving the rocking horse and I think it deserves a place on the cover.
Our Art class has to do altered books for their final year end projects. The art teacher was a bit stumped as to what to do. So I said with great pride: 'well, one of my FRIENDS (I hope you don't mind me stretching the truth a little there) is the queen of the altered book, so give her blog a visit.' She was very impressed with your work and finds you a life saver.
Happy WOYWW
I love the rocking horse and look forward to seeing what you do with it. Enjoy your extra large tub of gesso, just as well you can do lots with it lol!!
Have a great WOYWW and a fab week, Luv Karen xx
Holy moly - I'm number 126! That's where us early west coasters end up cuz all the early birds back east or in Europe get in much earlier. Ah well, there's no way to see everyone's desk, so I'll just poke around here and there to see what folks are up to.
Hi Elizabeth, a big tub of gesso calls for a lot of painting, otherwise it will go off, dry out or set before it's used up. Look forward to seeing the rocking-horse makeover. Off to look at Lesson 2. Have a great week. Elizabeth x #80 - someway after your #9
Greetings from #108. Wow -- that's a giant container of gesso -- don't you hate it when manufacturers or stores mess with a good thing and change things? Will be interested to see your altered book in the future.
Can't wait to see the finished book and rocking horse. I haven't ever used gesso, must investigate more!
Happy WOYWW, Debxx #23
Gesso is a girls best friend. You are the queen Rocking horse's
That is one serious tub of gesso! Looks like a good investment though.
Thanks for sharing a peek at your desk. :)
Ali #84
Good to know where I can get some gesso! It's not something I use often, course that may well be changing when I get up the nerve to alter the book lol.
I thought I had bought a book that was sewn but it ended up being glued, I think I got side tracked looking at the books and trying to think of a theme! lol Well off to read the next step, I hope I don't get too far behind! Hopefully I'll get caught up and will start posting my progress on WOYWW! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)
Never used gesso - think I need to find out about it. Most of my pics are fabric/stitched but I would like to do a bit more mixed media.
That's a large tub-o-Gesso! I Gesso you won't need to buy any soon! I couldn't resist. ;) I look forward to seeing your AB with rocking horse! Warmly Tracy #127
That's a seriously larg tub of gesso! I've always had much smaller ones and they don't last long once one starts letting oneself go lol! I love your little rocking horse, too.
Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog!! I saw my sister today and she decided to open her present before her birthday, and she loved it! she was very interested when I told her how my cutting machine worked. It was a really fun project to do once I'd got the hang of how to cut the butterflies.
Happy WOYWW, Shoshi #19
hi elizabeth, huh I just beat you on the role call LOL
I'm touch by the effort you went to to find out about marmite (also called vegimite in some countries). I wish you could smell them. If you e mail me your address I will send you some, but not as big a tub as your gesso.... it's huge, should last you a life time !!!
happy WOYWW

Thanks for the brilliant timing trick for wyoww!
Thanks for sharing your desk :)
back again, ...I swapped the yellow lid for a yellow punch
(Lyn)
oh...there's me thinking you have comments waiting..coz I couldn't see my comment, so?? that means I've typed it all out and then forgot to post it...what did i say??? some thing about , I'd never seen such a big pot of gesso and I liked your rocking horse! (I think!) and then..Thanks for my snoop!
HaPpY WoYwW!! Have a very crafty week!
((Lyn))#67
That could possibly be the largest container of Gesso I have ever seen!!! I love Hobby Lobby, that place just puts a smile on my face!! Thanks for sharing!
Julie
You could have a bath in that tub of gesso, it's huge. You would be surprised how quickly it goes though.
Have a great week.
Von #38
have to giggle about getting the lid off of your super sized gesso tub E...they seem to turn packaging into Ft Knox these days!
your weather sounds like ours...it was 61 today and some of our daffodils are ready to bloom
oxo
Gesso is such a great staple to have. I even have some drying on a piece at the moment.
Super sized tub!! a gal can never have too much Gesso, love that stuff!
Love your rocking horse, yews we need to see it painted! Mx
Have you removed a post Elizabeth? Just clicked on a link from my blog reading list about covers and it came up with 'not found'. If it's a test then I failed miserably.
Ann B
I can see a lot of "altered" artwork happening with all that gesso.
love the big bucket of gesso! I am a bit late getting around this week but I forgot to post on Wednesday and have been busy all week. Just wanted to make the rounds and remind everyone my blog candy closes on Tuesday night of next week and I will announce winners on Wednesday. Drop by become a follower and leave a comment for a chance to win. Vickie #173
That's got to be the Gesso motherload - and I bet you'll get through it super quick too! Love the idea of putting Mr Rocking Horse actually on the cover of the RH AB.... looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
Thanks for stopping by....
I did not know they made jars of gesso so large. I love the rocking horse can't wait to see it painted and my number is 170. I am so late getting started.
I also have blog candy.

Just wanted to say I went to Hobby Lobby (with my handy dandy coupon), but got a moderate pot of gesso instead of the vat. Of course then I found out how lovely the stuff is, and I used it instead of Modge podge or watered down glue for some tissue paper mache (the legs of the clock and the shoes of the head in the cloud projects). Now I have to re-read the lessons because I got distracted and get to work :D.
Well you made it under 98, well done, I'm trying to make it to #1 hee hee. Boy oh boy what are you gessoing with that huge pot of it?
