Walking A Tightrope

Today I'm once again at Art Journal Journey joining our host Mia who can be found at Craftartista.  Her theme this month is Make your own background.

The little girl is Walking a tightrope.  Details are below.

The little girl is walking a tightrope. Here is how I made this background.

I  saturated a piece of watercolor paper with coffee.

Then I added coffee crystals to the wet watercolor paper.  The crystals dissolved into patterns.

I soaked wax linen thread in coffee for a few days to soak up the coffee.

When I added more coffee, I kept moving the string which was very frustrating.

When dry, it turned out better than I expected, but still left a few open spots in the grid.

I paired the background with a TH paper doll and a computer generated sentiment that I outlined in brown dye ink.  I'm trying to keep the foreground and focal images simple while allowing each background to shine.

Thanks for dropping by today.  Bleubeard and I hope to see you and your handmade backgrounds soon at Art Journal Journey

  1. When you added the coffee the last time did you use a mister or spray bottle? I like how the grid turned out in the end. Nice!

  9. Frustrating or not Elizabeth, this has turned out to be a beautiful background for your page in your journal to satisfy Mia's theme. I would never have guessed you had created this with coffee. It looks fabulous!
