Jimmy Kimmel, late night host of a variety show on ABC (American Broadcasting Company), abruptly had his show removed indefinitely because he made a joke that involved the death of Charlie Kirk and the U.S. president didn't like it. |
It appears free speech is now under attack. I risk losing my blog just because I'm writing about free speech. If the president or his minions determine they don't like what I have to say today, my blog could disappear from blogland.
Freedom of speech is guaranteed under the 1st Amendment of the Constitution. However, free speech is not the only right guaranteed under the Constitution. Freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, and the right to petition the government are also included. It appears each and every one of these freedoms is now at risk.
We all know the press has been reprimanded and called "fake news." My blog is my right to assemble with other like minded individuals, as well as viewers, readers, and followers with opposing views, all of whom are welcome.
How do we guarantee our rights are still covered under the 1st amendment? We do it in the voting booth.
Thanks for stopping by today. I look forward to your comments.
Mine, too. Not that I talk about politics that often, but it's easy to know I am a democrat and on the left. Free speech may truly be taken away from us. More than that. Stephen Miller says there should be 100 million people in the US. There are 340 million of us. Let that congeal in your brain for a while.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why so many people in Congress and the Senate (and the courts), who have sworn to hold the constitution are allowing this to happen. It's a sad and very scary state of affairs.
ReplyDelete...will the Republicans finally develop balls?

ReplyDeletefreedom...seems to be something that is a "thing of the past " it's a sorry ass world we live in now ~~~
ReplyDeleteIf one looks at history, then at the writings of project 2025, we are witnessing the destruction of our country. Voting already is being "fixed" A second "thing" administration has renew efforts to erode constitutional foundations of our democracy, make it harder for Americans to vote — particularly voters of color, voters with limited English proficiency, voters with disabilities, older voters, and other marginalized voters — and spread false, debunked theories designed to undermine confidence in the integrity of our voting system. In other words we are all screwed if people, in power, don't stand up against him.
ReplyDeleteI think it will be awhile before they go after google bloggers who have (compared to the zillions of TV and the name recognition of many of the substackers.). But I agree that these are frightening times in our country. It used to be so great, now it is becoming a scary, unwelcoming and angry place. Thank you for writing.
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth, I feel sad at the way things are going in the USA. Looking at some of Mr T's "rules" it feels like the country is shifting in the direction of a dictatorship. I hope he can somehow be stopped!
