Tea Towels

Sometimes it's weird how my mind works. For example, take yesterday, when I visited Inspiration Avenue to see if they had a new challenge, or if they were going to continue with the post cards. To my delight, Kim had a challenge that involved the Day of the Week, as in the Day of the Week you were born. I'm sure you've heard the old saying about Monday's child, etc. At the end of the announcement, Kim wrote (and I quote):
". . . and please, as much as we love them, ..... no days of the week dish towels or underwear. :)"
That got me thinking. I've never heard of, or seen, Days of the Week undies, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. It just means I lead a sheltered life and don't wear undies!

But I quickly remembered I was given a set of Tea Towels (I've never called them "dish" towels) for Christmas one year (more than a few years ago) along with a Mexican Cook Book. My friend was celebrating her heritage by showing off her sewing and baking skills.

But the remark Kim made got my mind wandering to (and contemplating) today's Tea Tuesday post, which of course is hosted by Kimmie at Art in Red Wagons.

I apologize that these photos are so dark, but it is dark and rainy here this morning. Reminds me of winter!

I hate to admit this, but I have never used these tea towels. They are exactly as I found them in my buffet. I though I would have saved them in order, with Tuesday being

the third tea towel in the pile. However, I'm not so sure that is the case,

because I thought Tuesday would be the day to iron after doing laundry on Monday.

I was fairly certain Tuesday was not the day to visit the market,

and I suspected this must be Sunday because of the church with the cross and the bunny's finery.

Other than that, I have NO idea which day is which, since I'm not even sure what language this is.

I have to admit they were sure fun to check out, even though I will never use them. So is your tea a towel or a cup or a bag today? Whatever it is, have as much fun letting your imagination go wild, as I did.

And once again, I'm out the door early because my friend Sally and I are hitting the big box stores this morning, then heading to lunch, after which I'll be back to visit everyone. Besides buying Bleubeard essentials, I'm going to look for a camera. Sure hope I can find what I want because I'm really, really, really tired of this one!

  1. I really like the tea towels no matter what the language is. I have a few old embroidery patterns for those day of the week towels but I doubt I'll ever make a set.

I cheated, used Google translator, it's Spanish by the way. Those towels look very retro too, from the 50's? And hey, I wore underwear with the days of the week on them when I was a kid! lol waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

  5. I think you are onto a good thing not having the days of the week on your underwear... I mean, if you sleepily put the wrong pair on one morning and got run over by a bus the nurses in hospital might think you had them on for a few days!! ;) This is on par with my Grandmother, when I lived with her as a teen being scandalized by the safety pin holding my bra strap on... yep, slob that I am, I couldn't be bothered to go find a needle and thread and she pointed out the running over the bus scenario to me and said that I would be unconscious and the nurses would only have these indicators to tell them what sort of person I was... I think my reply went along the lines of 'that would be the least of my worries if I had been flattened by a double decker'.... LOL

  8. This is the first time i have been able to open your comments in weeks. Spunky is always interested in seeing Bluebeard and a little upset these days as his brother tripper get canned food and he doesn't.
I had a set of the tea towels from South America. They are in every culture that embroiders. Well maybe only the ones that nuns went to and taught embroidery.

  10. Hi again Ellizabeth, with my very limited knowledge I did know it was Spanish. My mind boggles though wondering what on earth you wear instead of 'undies' hahaha

  12. Aha, cute cute cute, I love them... I speak three years of night school Spanish, so can just about manage these. Now these you see, are the sort of thing I DO use, because otherwise I don't get their pleasure. Love the differences. But also...I'd be OK with towels, but knickers annoyed daily? Would cause me all sorts of stress in laundry keepy uppy! Great post, E!

  13. I think the tea towels are cute, but I admit I probably wouldn't use them either! I'm not much into retro. As for the undies...I don't think I could be bothered making sure I had the right ones on the right day! Hope Bluebeard gets some goodies!

  14. So no undies Elizabeth hey... love it... and the tea towels, which I couldn't use either... no clue what language it is, and for all I know they may be incredibly naughty words... how cool would that be though... I would love that... I think you should make up naughtiness and ignore the meanings altogether...
    fun post...xx

  16. Cute towels ... I love the old way of planning out the week that way. Wouldn't it be nice to only do laundry once, for example .... And since I don't iron, that could become a free day! Hah! As it works out, each day is full to the brim with a little bit of everything :)

Good luck with your camera excursion, I feel somewhat responsible, so my fingers are crossed for you!!

  17. I like the towels. A chore for each day of the week. My mother had a set like those. Washing, mending, ironing, marketing, baking, cleaning, and Church on Sunday. I wish that I was as organized. LOL By the way, I am enjoying your Altered Book Tutorial very much. Thank you.
