Also on my table are a couple of large sheets from Day Planner packaging. My neighbor Sally gave it to me, and I anticipate it will have lots of paint on it before I remove it from my table.
I still haven't dealt with that wooden rocking horse, and WOYWWendy was hiding in the tool container until I found her in our favorite "hide and seek" game.
But the most wonderful thing on my desk is a lovely silver rocking horse I got in the mail on Monday. The package was damaged in the mail service, had been re-packaged by USPS (our postal service), and came with a note saying every precaution had been taken to ensure this got to me unharmed, but blah, blah, blah and here it is!! The package was SO damaged, they were only able to make out the majority of my address, but not my name, and none of the sender's name or address, except it came from the UK.
I immediately thought of Jude, who sent me a gift last Christmas. We both assumed it was lost and gone forever. I have left her a message on her blog and am eagerly awaiting an answer. I sure hope this came from her, and if it did, I will gladly update this post with that information. Regardless, I will love and enjoy it, my newest baby and addition to my "family."
Thank you beyond words, Jude, because I'm sure this beauty came from you!

Hi Elizabeth! What a great addition to your rocking horse collection! I have my WOYWW post ready and waiting..... hoping Julia stays up late so I can get in before triple digits!! It's a work night for me and since I have to be at work at 7:30 a.m. I usually don't stay up late.
ReplyDeleteThe flower tutorial sounds interesting. How fun to find a craft where you can take out some frustration and enjoy pounding. I tried tin work and my poor Daisy was totally freaked out by all the noise so I sold all my supplies and stopped. Her happiness was more important.
Happy WOYWW
Hugs,
Kay - no # yet but I'm sure it'll be huuggee
Elizabeth, I look forward to the flower pounding tut. I am "working" on my altered book, but I didn't follow directions and by the time I finally got my clump of pages glued together so that I could cut a niche, I found it was only 3/8" thick and I haven't found anything just yet to go in it. I've been to a few second-hand stores looking, but so far no luck. I talked with my 4 year old granddaughter who loves to do art with me and she thinks she might have some fake food in her play kitchen that would fit in my niche.
ReplyDeleteI will post and link to you when I have made a bit of progress.
What a great surprise in the mail - so lovely,
xoxo

I've never tried flower pounding but have always planned to try it. maybe your post will be the push I need. Everytime we see a rocking horse, Peggy asks me if you will like it!! We always remember you and your rocking horse collection. One day, a rocking horse from the Philippines will arrive! Hopefully one with Philippine flavor and not one made in China!!!! :^) patsy (#11 I think!)

Flower pounding....very curious. What a lovely rocking horse and what a story behind receiving it too. Tracey x
ReplyDeleteWOW sounds like you have had an interesting week so far what with finding WOYWW Wendy hiding in the tools, USPS bringing the silver horse and now you are into pounding flowers...oh my! I haven't been out in the yard much but have gotten most of the planters and pots fixed up. I bought tomatoes to go in the garden but it has to be retilled cause the storms etc have kept it too wet when I had time to plant and now it has overgrown a bit. Have a great week. Vickie #91
ReplyDeleteFlower pounding sounds almost to cruel!!! Although I am a little intrigued to see what you are going to do. Lovely rocking horse and great that it got to you eventually. Wouldn't it be wonderful to follow a letter through the postal system..

ReplyDeleteLooks like a good way to vent....ah a sweet story of reunion - how can something so small be so traumatised? BTW - not a Julia stalker - was awake until 5am due to a bad cough and hiding in the kitchen to give a hubby a break! Just woken up for lunch! All names going in the hat for the mag! You're in. Enjoy WOYWW and your week, Sarah at 1.
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of flower pounding so I will be back to see what it is all about.
ReplyDeleteI wonder where that darling little rocking horse went on its adventure. Glad to know it arrived at your doorstep unharmed.
ReplyDeleteDarla
The little rocking horse was meant to find its way to you! I am looking forward to finding out what flower pounding is all about. I have a felling the flowers aren't going to like it much!! :-) WOYWW Hugs from Helen 64
ReplyDeleteI'm rather fearful about what's going to happen to those beautiful flowers (irises?) once they meet that hammer, I don't think I can bear to watch!! Lovely rocking horse gift, with that red ribbon it certainly looks like it could be a Christmas gift, it's beautiful.

Happy WOYWW Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteHugs Marleen #25
Flower pounding is cool! A good way to get your frustration out as well as come up with some lovely colors. Are you doing it on fabric or paper? I guess I had never thought about doing it on paper, but I assume it will work, but perhaps a bit different results. needlewings# 20
ReplyDeleteOkay, i have got to find out about this flower pounding, following you now so I don't miss the post!! Thanks for the visit today, I cannot imagine taking statistics, I once took beginning logics and it brought me to tears!!
ReplyDelete-Annie

ReplyDeletePounded flowers, I can hardly wait for this one! How wonderful to know that there are some postal workers that are willing to go the extra mile to get the mail where it belongs! Such a lovely little rocking horse, bet it has some tales of its adventure around the world.

ReplyDeleteFlower pounding! What kind of woman are you??? LOL ;D
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'll be able to watch if it means some defenceless flower gets pulverized...but maybe I'll take just a little peek because it does sound intriguing.
Amazing that the little rocking horse found you...I bet he has a story to tell :D
Enjoy WOYWW ~ Neesie #22
Your little rocking horse is so cool, and what stories it could tell if only it could talk. I hope it is the long lost Christmas gift, that would be cool if it found its way. Is flower pounding to get the flower to leave its color behind and basically become one with the paper?
ReplyDeleteI only own one hammer...hmmm...lol. I love your rocking horse, too! Beautiful. :)
ReplyDelete#134
What did those poor flowers ever do to deserve pounding?!?!? HA! I have no idea what this is about but, like everyone else I'm very interested. The things we do for art's sake! Well, actually flowers and berries were (and still are) the first pigments used for painting.
ReplyDeleteAnd, sometimes USPS comes through, huh? They are trying harder these days since they are in fear of losing their jobs. No matter, we finally get good customer service!
Have a great week!
hugs!
kat
Glad the little horsey got to you one way or another! I love WOYWWendy!

That is such a beautiful rocking horse, you are very lucky, no matter who sent it. Flower pounding sounds like fun but not for the flower.
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling me about the ATC on 5 x7". I thought it had to be an original, so something learnt today.
Have a great week.

I did flower pounding years ago, but not sure I did it right, so I will be here for your tutorial. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe first picture kinda frightened me cos I thought you were going to smash the vase with the pretty flowers in, what am I like lol. Love the little rocking horse, he is too cute. Thank you for visiting me, hugs, Amanda #123
ReplyDeleteJust read your post above - flower pounding - never heard of it before but what a great idea. A lovely start for a pice of artwork I think. x Jo
ReplyDeleteJust been looking at your tutorial and it seems a great way to use some of the flowers I need to remove from my petunias (I want them to grow more before flowering their heads off). I am not doing very well in getting round to everyone again this week. I am doing this in between checking to see if the bread is risen enough for the oven. Life is just so hectic at the moment, and now I am thinking of all I need to do before we go away soon, and make sure that everything is back in the caravan where it belongs. Thank you for your visit and kind comments. Over here, if a tree is deemed to be of any visual environmental value, it gets a preservation order slapped on it to prevent the owners chopping it down. Even if you want to just prune it a little, you have to get special permission and use approved tree surgeons to do the work. Right, off to check the bread again. Have a good week. xx Maggie #93
ReplyDeleteFlower pounding - haven't heard of that before - looking forward to your tutorial!
ReplyDeleteBernice
Oh.I feel like I've had a pounding...playing catch up in the wee hrs between storms. Pounding storms. But your pounding would be much more fun. Hope to check back on the tute. Have a wonderful weekend, thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI've only done flower pounding with my Wizard machine, usually if I have been pounding it has been stubborn polymer clay.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky that your wee rocking horse got to you in good condition, do hope you find who it is from.
Thanks for commenting on my blog earlier, I am so behind, just starting out. Hugs Neet #27
Thank you for sharing this, it looks like a really fun and interesting technique. Can you do it with jam sandwiches? Or bourbon biscuits?? ;)
