using 91% Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. I'm wiping the excess ink on my monthly calendar page.
I know you REALLY came to see the rocking horses, so here they are hanging out in my altered book this week!
Several WOYWWers wanted more photos of examples of Design Principles in my altered book. If you were here Sunday night/Monday morning, you saw the left side of this spread. This is not just an example of unity (example on the left, showing unity is achieved when like or similar items are bunched together), but it is also an example of "emphasis" (the center of interest that can be created by making one part of the collage stand out or seem special in some way) .
I have a busy week ahead, but will try to visit as many as possible. Also please leave your number so you are easier to find.

My desk is bereft of anything interesting so I am not woyww-ing and I am going to use the time to make some pages up in my book... I know the next couple of months is going to get a bit manic so I don't need to be behind before it gets that way!! I love these pages... that little rocking horse on its own really does stand out!
ReplyDeleteWell, I got my book but still haven't done anything with it, and my staycation is slipping away from me too quickly! Yikes.... The scrap page at the top looks like a work of art (journal) in itself!
ReplyDeleteMorti #4
Book looks lovely and those rocking horses are soo lovely!
ReplyDeleteAstrid #33
Love the rocking horses....book looking fab.. Hugs May x x x No15
ReplyDeleteWell, I've removed the pages from my book, but it stalled there. I'll have to work at my own pace. Your page is looking nice! I haven't gotten to the lesson on Design Principles, but I can see what you mean! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLisa #21
Love the progress! Thanks for the peek.
ReplyDeleteGreat little rocking horses! Mari #39
ReplyDeleteLovely pages in your book, and I love the rocking horse.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my blog. Please bear with me regarding the colours - it's still a work in progress and I haven't got the text colours etc. right yet - the background is coming out too dark and I'm taking advice on how to fix that. Give me a few days and it should improve!!
My mixed media project is a long slow project because everything takes so long to dry. I'm gradually getting some idea of where I am going with it now, but it's highly experimental!!
Happy WOYWW,
Shoshi #18
I love the rocking horse. I want to make time to check out your altered book pages. #26
ReplyDeleteRocking horses are just so iconic aren't they?
ReplyDeleteEnjoying looking at your altered book pages.Thanks.
Judy #22
I love your explanations, you really do go out of your way to explain things so well! Got my latest pages up, looking forward to the next assignment! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina #51
ReplyDeleteLove your altered book and I always look for those rocking horses, sometime hiding and sometimes right out there.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question about where I put all the books, they went into the lounge room that my hubby won't let me use as an art room. They were mostly his books and cooking books, so I didn't want them back in my art room. Leaves more room to buy art books :)
Have a great week.

...your AB is looking great and your little Rocking Horses are so cute...thanks for sharing...Mel :)
ReplyDeleteYour rocking horses are very cute.
ReplyDeleteI found the information you had posted on design principles really interesting. But I have to admit seeing a visual representation really brings the message home. Sandra #63
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by already, and if I can bear to rip pages out of the book I 'rescued' I will... lol! Thanks for showing more examples of unity and emphasis, I am struggling with this lesson (mainly due to the weekend away decorating, and no time!!) Helen, 39 though you don't need that as you'v already visited...
ReplyDeleteI'm loving seeing all the altered books in their various stages around the WOYWW world :-)

PS Wonder what the collective noun for a group of rocking horses is??
Love all the rocking horse views Elizabeth. Sorry I haven't had time to join in with the AB - if I tell you I joined the TH class online and have not been in yet you might understand.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - and your comment on my blog - I always seem to be playing "catch up". Thanks for the number too - makes it so much easier as you well know. Hugs, Neeet #10 again xx
Thanks for the example Elizabeth, and for dropping in on me. Makes the design principle a lot clearer and a big help - love the page as well.

ReplyDeleteYour rocking horse stamp is fantastic, and I bet it gets a lot of use from you. You all seem to be having so much fun with that Altered Book project, I almost wish I had joined in, but I cannot add another project to the ones I already have. Thank you for your visit today. Have a great week. xx Maggie #2

ReplyDeleteLove the pictures of your desk and altered book. The colour of the two pages is beautiful, so the stamp is a real focal point. Thanks for sharing and have a happy WOYWW.

Lovely AB with the rocking chairs! I am very busy these days but I am trying to catch up with things also your AB...I am at 93!
ReplyDeleteLots of hugs,

Yay rocking horses! The double spread also illustrates asymmetrical balance - my fave. This is a great example of unity. Thanks again for such comprehensive information and examples! woyww#62
ReplyDeleteSuper rocking horses, they leap off the page. Your Ab is fab, I must try and follow some of your techniques next time I make one. Go me, still working on the first (see my woyww post!) but it's a random Zoe version of an AB! Take care, enjoy WOYWW snooping! Love Zo xx 75
ReplyDeleteLove your rocking horse page, especially the way you've layered die cuts with stamped images. I keep meaning to have a go at your altered book course but time seems to be getting away from me lately!!
ReplyDeleteAli #117
Lovely pages Famfa #41
ReplyDeleteWell, Elizabeth, I got my book and I have gutted it following your instructions, I've even left a section, tied up with a rubber band, in which to create a niche, but that's as far as it goes so far. I may never catch up but will persist following your lessons and should complete it this side of the blue moon :) I have decided that instead of having a theme I will use it to record new techniques. Love your rocking horse stamping. Happy WOYWW. Elizabeth x #26
ReplyDeleteSeems like we all have a lot of balls that we are juggling and trying to keep in the air. I'm on to Proprtion and emphasiS. pant, pant.
ReplyDeleteMeant to say.....Hurrah my rocking horse cravings have been sated!
ReplyDeleteKyla #128
Rocking horses look lovely.

Does rubbing alcohol truly take the stain off stamps? That is good to know. Mostly I don't care if they are stained but sometimes you want to stamp something in a light color and the staining will muddy the color. Best to clean the stamp first then. I love the rocking horses in your book! Is the one a die cut? That is just too cool! Judy #143
ReplyDeleteI am going to start with a book - someday. Thanks for reminding me LOL
ReplyDeleteLove those rocking horses!
ReplyDelete#148
Babe I canna remember my number - and I leave for France so soon that I may not see my comments, let alone return them, until next weekend (not this one), and I think you may have visited me enough recently - so have this one for free eh???
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely a totally unified artist, definately,
it shows in your desk as well as your work
dxxxx
I had trouble being brief today...hahaha...but, then I probably do must days..... photo heavy cuz I finished my goose....love the little rocking horses...
ReplyDeleteI can't remember you ever having posted a long ramble that was difficult to get through at any time, but not on WOYWW! I love the grouped rocking horses...I'm to this far yet but am loving the AB course. Do you mind if I share your tip about thickening the thin gesso - its caused quite a lot of questions on my WOYWW today!
ReplyDeleteReally like the monthly calendar page...it comes on like magic!
Love these rocking horses
ReplyDeleteSweet pages these!!!
ReplyDeleteOf course I came to see the rocking horses...I was 73 now am 82...great project there.
ReplyDeletefab rocking horses, I love this page!
ReplyDeleteyou have to be the queen of altered books. love the little rocking horses.

janet #19
Ok I am confused I heard alcohol was bad for rubber, so I hope you conditioned your rocking horse. Happy Woyww! #59
ReplyDeleteLove the rocking horse stamp and the page is perfect.
ReplyDeleteEliza #80
I'm going to have to go back and look at all your AB posts - when did you start the class? I have been picking up free books at the library used bookstore - I have french, german, asian books and love the text. I just started an art journal from an old book (have only done one page). As long as I can do your class and don't get in trouble with the teacher.....
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW
Hugs,
Kay

Boo I left a long comment and Google Chrome ate it! I love how this evokes childhood memories, tales of the "Tortoise and the Hare" (that horse running behind may overtake the ones in front of him yet!), and utilizes material and color so well. This is beautiful and made me smile (-P:
ReplyDeletei've been working on my pages and have kept all the principles i read about in mind. let's see if i got to apply them. if not, i still am enjoying myself a lot with this AB course! happy WOYWW, happy Easter season and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteblessings and hugs from #23

Thanks so much for your encouraging message.... I'm going to make a start next week whilst i'm away on holiday. I'll take basics with me so can start prepping in the evenings after dinner and let's see where I go from there. Watch this space!!!

Sorry I haven't been by lately, well actually I have been, but mostly on phone or tablet thingy that makes it difficult to comment. I so love all journal pages, I haven't started mine, but I hope you don't mind I have been making notes and printing your free class out so I can have a go after I get my injections for my back (soon hopefully). Love your rocking horse stamp it's beautiful and the journal page as always is awesome. Take care, happy woyww :-) Kezzy xxx
