I'm celebrating Halloween a bit early, but it appears I'm not alone. Seems Try it on Tuesday is also celebrating early. Then of course, there is our own Elle from Empire of the Cat, our host this month at Art Journal Journey, whose theme is Fairytales, Folklore, and Fables -
Tell Me A Story. The story today is Trick or Treat, a Halloween favorite.
I created this tip-in for a friend from the colored and stamped images I showed last week. It appears there are other sites choosing Halloween, too. Country View Challenges wants us to share a harvest or Halloween entry. Further, Creative Artiste is holding their 87th challenge where anything goes as long as there are multiple media (multiple means a minimum of three).
I actually created two of these. Instead of reinventing the wheel, I chose to make both quite similar.
I used fluid acrylic paint to create the witch and pumpkin using chunky stamps. Because the witch and pumpkin both have faces, I'm also joining Nicole's Friday Face Off which will go live tomorrow. I hope you join her by sharing a face, ANY face.
There are a lot of challenges, so I will also show my Halloween cards I made. I know two of the four I created have been received.
I realize it was not a good photo, but it was early morning and I was trying to get these ready to go in the mail.
Here they are up close:
In case you are as interested as Creative Artiste is, I first colored either orange or lavender paper using orange glaze paint. Some were painted on copier paper, while others were colored on book pages. I used black dye ink on the stamps. The cross was one I hand carved using a paring knife. The hands were computer generated on my laser printer, making it easy to color over them.
For the back side of the tip-ins, I used fluid acrylics to create the witch and pumpkin. I used variegated thread on the tip-ins and the tip-in images.
Please join Bleubeard and me (in alphabetical order) at Art Journal Journey, Country View Challenges, Creative Artiste, Friday Face Off, and Try it on Tuesday. And have a super spooky day filled with all treats and no tricks!
Smiling. We don't celebrate Halloween here (despite the efforts of the big stores). These are fun though.
ReplyDeleteI have to join your first comment here - a bit!
ReplyDeleteI was looking for more Halloween-stuff - nada, all Christmas!
Love your works! Actually such a fun time for dressing up. Here I read years ago those who do not join really had damage in some cities on their cars or houses. Kids (or near adults) obviously didn´t get the concept/took it too serious. This is not funny anymore.
But your art is!
Lots of fun Halloween projects, love them all. I haven't had the energy for these things this year, but perhaps next year will be better! Have a wonderful day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI got mine yesterday-and thank you!!! I like how you created a mosaic of images-and fun images too. I am going to share it on T Day.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like how you stitched your images on your journal pages. This is also a fun way to celebrate Halloween. I really like these stamps too. Thanks again for the card (it is great to get Happy mail) and also for linking up to TIOT and our Halloween challenge too. It is fun to see you there. And of course AJJ also. I can't forget that. Hope your week is going well. hugs-Erika
Your spooky blue color, along with the slightly muted orange, creates a great Halloween feeling in your cards and images. It’s really more effective than the very bright colors that are often used. Have fun with holiday celebrations. My neighbors’ decorations are amazing, and I’ve shared a lot of them, so I enjoy seeing something different from your blog.
ReplyDeletebest… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Fun Halloween project
ReplyDeleteI Love my card very very much-has me smiling as it is now sitting next to my computer on top of the printer so I can enjoy it for the rest of October.
ReplyDeleteI really loved all the stamping hugs
All very spooky! Especially fond of the hands! Happy Early Halloween!!! OOoooooooOooo.. Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteI am a lucky recipient of one of these ... thanks so much "E" ... it will join my Halloween decorations each year!
ReplyDeleteHappy National Black Cat Day! Love your Halloween tip-in and your cards today. That orange really stands out doesn't it, great colours for the season of course. Thanks for joining me for the October theme at Art Journal Journey this month Elle/Empire of the Cat xx
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see your Halloween. I just can't get into it this year, so you are adding a bit of spark to me!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to see how practices change. Mother's reports of Halloween when she was a child were filled with pranks (putting porch rockers on roofs was popular), and there was no trick or treating. When I was a child it was all about the trick or treating. When my kids were little there was lots of trick or treating but a growing number of churches doing "alternative" events. Now I hardly see trick or treating at all, but there are a growing number of festivals hosted by museums and the zoo and such.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had a trick or treater here for about four or five years now - changing times I guess. I suppose some parents won't let them out on their own doing it and can't be bothered to go out with them.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you have made some cards and sent them out - they are great and will be well received.
Super pages. I love the fluid acrylic ones you are showing us with the witch and the pumpkin.
Happy Halloween to you three
Hugs, neet xxx
...have a spooktacular Halloween!
ReplyDeleteWe don't really 'do' Hallowe'en, no kids come here. I have pumpkins out, though.
ReplyDeleteYaay For pumpkin faces - that was my choice for today also.
ReplyDeleteYou know how much I love these. All the faces of Halloween. Thank you for joining FFO. Have a lovely day today.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a post full of treats Elizabeth! A wonderful assortment of spooky stamps, especially the chunky stamps with acrylic paint and your hand carved cross. Fabulous stitching detail for texture and plenty of interest with the book page backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining in with our October challenge "Anything Mixed Media Goes" at Creative Artiste Mixed Media. Good luck and Happy Halloween x
Such lovely Halloween themed pieces! I love your post cards. I bet your recipients were delighted.
ReplyDeleteYou have been a very busy lady ... lots of different ways of looking at the same thing ... all Halloween. Very cleverly grouped and colored. And I await the Bleubeard Halloween TaDa ... NO? Okay, if you say so :) But I still think he makes a magnificent Halloween cat (just a magnificent cat if truth be told :) Hope you have a fun and safe Halloween Elizabeth ...

You know I won't be making anymore Halloween pages this year but I do love yours. Hugs, Chrisx ps I am having problems catching up.
ReplyDeleteJust realised that not only is this great for Elle's AJJ theme but I needed to say Thank you for joining us at Try It On Tuesday, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteI love your Halloween page and have had a super catch up this morning. I am so missing calling in these days to see everyone's inspiration, but when I do its a happy feeling to see the projects.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking over at TioT's this is fantastic for that theme as well.
Yvonne xx
