Today I'm once again joining Rosie, our host at Art Journal Journey. Bleubeard and I have been significantly absent, but only because we've been a bit busy this month trying to play catch up on the thousands of photos I took in April and May.
Rosie's theme at Art Journal Journey is "circles," and I've finally come up with something to share. 
Once I printed this word, which is supposed to be JOY, it looked a bit like TOY to me. Have I not mentioned I hate my hand writing?
Some of you may remember the Chevron stamp I made back in April. I finally got around to using it on this project.
What took so long to make this entry was I had to wait for each layer of inky handmade shimmering mists to dry. 
I know you can't see the shimmer and sparkle, but it is there. 
Even the ink pen is metallic and shimmers.
For this journal page, I began with a sheet of standard 8.5" X 11" heavy card stock. I first applied the copper mist and allowed it to dry. Next I added the turquoise shimmering mist that I also stamped the chevron with. I tried to make circles, but the more I worked them, the more the "circles" turned to splats. I finally allowed these to dry, then used my blue (which looks suspiciously turquoise on the page) shimmering mist to create circles using various plastic circle pieces. Plastic and shimmering mists do NOT act or stamp like paint, so that was also a challenge. But once everything was dry and the word was printed, I was happy with it.
I also LOVE my chevron stamp. Even though this looks less than perfect, I applied some Staz-on and stamped it on a piece of scrap paper. The shimmering mists spread differently than the Staz-on, and the chevron stamp works very, very well using real ink, but less so with my hand made shimmering mists. Two different looks and two different outcomes. Both pleased me, though.

I think splats are circles showing their joyous enthusiasm. Embrace your handwriting. It's alive, not static. The problem with many of us not liking our handwriting has to do with we have never seen handwritten text being used every day. All our books especially after WWII, have been printed. And with the advent of desktop publishing, we tend to equate printing with perfection. While there are many beautiful fonts (and a plethora of ugly ones), printing is static. Each "a" on a page looks the same. It gets that same amount of ink and pressure. Handwriting, and becoming rare, is alive. No two handwritten letter will look the same. Embrace the individuality

Are those solid circles what you're calling "splats"? Hmmm, well I thought they were circles :) I also think your "joy" definitely looks like "joy". This handwriting sample looks like a fine piece of calligraphy to me. You must be your own worst critic. I love your chevron design!

This looks great Elizabeth! I like your spirit of adventure as you share how you try different media with different techniques. You have done the experiment that proves that the more watery the medium the more unpredictable the result when trying to apply with something non-porous - the watery mists will pool up on a stamp or a piece of plastic, making the results less uniform, but no less interesting (in fact maybe more interesting) than if you used something 'drier' like ink. Of course I LOVE this colour combination. :)

I like the circles and the chevron image. I like shape images like that which are not perfect. I think its more artsy. Perfect page for AJJ! Hope this hot weather has left you- I think it was sent this way. I haven't seen the weather this weekend so I don't whether you stayed hot or cooled off. Hope its been a good one. Hugs-Erika
