WOYWW 258: The one where she makes a "masterboard"

Julia, our beloved host at Stamping Ground is preparing for the 5th WOYWW Anniversary in two weeks, and there is excitement in the air.  Many deskers (Julia always comes up with the best names) are making ATCs for the anniversary, and some will be swapping with their desker friends.  Although many of us have never met in person (and that's especially true for those of us who live on this side of the pond in the colonies), we still feel a real kinship to each other, visiting week after week, like good friends do.

Now I confess, I'd never heard the word "masterboard" before I first read about it on Julia's blog one time.  I even commented that this was perfect for people like myself who are NOT good stampers.  However, once the masterboard is cut into smaller pieces, all that poor stamping seems to disappear.

And what better way to stamp my WOYWW ATC masterboards than with a rocking horse (my rocking horse of the week, in fact)!!  I have Janet of Fairy Thoughts to thank for the small rocker and Ohhh Snap to thank for the larger one.  I've used the larger one a LOT, but never used the small one until this project came up.

I printed my backs first (as shown in last week's WOYWW post), created my masterboard on the reverse side, cut the ATCs to size, then embellished and decorated.  I'll reveal the completed ATCs next week, except the one I made for my PIF partner.

Please remember, if you are coming from Julia's, please leave your number.  That's how I was able to get back to everyone last week, even though I was extra busy with real life.

  1. Of course it had to be a rocking horse. Stamping is better when it's not perfect, anyway. If it was perfect, you might as well have bought something. Nicer when it looks like you made it

  2. Your just ROCKING the ATC's ... couldn't help myself the backs look great now off to Julia's to find the link about a master board

  4. I am also trying to get ahead this week as I still need to make a few more ACTs ready for the Crop. I have to confess to ignorance about masterclass. However, my camera charger has turned up. It was In the bag with the other chargers for other equipment, just hiding in the box with my mp3 charger. Just the paints to find now. Have a great week with your rocking horses. xx Maggie

  6. Thanks so much for trying to leave me a commment last week, Elizabeth. I don't know what was up with my blog. Someone even emailed Patsy to tell me my blog had a virus but I had no idea what to do about that! Good thing it seems to have fixed itself cuz I wouldn't have been able to. Oh I want to make more ATCs, looking at your "masterboard". I am going to clean up my desk and see if I can make some more.

  18. I'm with you (and Julia) on this - a masterboard, cut up, produces lots of interesting bits, and you can cut yourself a "window" of the size you need then "fussy cut" - like you do cutting fabric for quilting - the areas that speak to you. It's more wasteful than just slicing it up along a grid, but I find I like the results a bit better. Having said that, you can always add just a little additional stamping to a grid-cut one if the stamping isn't positioned exactly as you would like it to be. But they are fun to create.

    Happy WOYWW!

  20. Great idea there! It is amazing how cutting up the masterboard instantly makes the cards different. I've seen that at Julia's when she was doing a tutorial on producing them!
Thanks for the lovely comments on my blog - I think I'd appreciated that you and I were probably on the same Non Conforming wavelength!! As they say in the UK, it takes one to know one. LOL!!

  24. So pleased you are finding the pleasures of the Masterboard. I have had so many questions about them that I thought I was the only one who had heard of them yet they are such a simple concept.
Look forward to seeing the finished ATCs. Happy crafting, Angela x 50

  25. The colonies! Made me smile! As did the Masterboards..what a great way to make your ATCs and the stamps are just perfect. I hope you're taking the week steadily given the amount of work you did in the garden over the weekend?

  26. I love the master boards with the little rocking horses, Elizabeth - so perfect for you! I really must start making these as I can think of so many uses for them. I don't think I'm going to be able to take part in the ATC swap as I haven't even started making any and there are other things that need doing first. Ah well, another time!

Thanks for your visit and your nice comment, and yes, there's always something going on on my desk, even if it looks cleared and tidied by the time WOYWW comes around!

    Happy WOYWW,

  27. Super masterboards, never done any myself. Yes my hand is a draw around self portrait, although I have just trimmed my nails yet again for harp playing and had to bring the pinky into line as it was getting far too long!! Shoes are a pain, I just have 4 pairs of these http://www.cottontraders.com/invt/aq11360 in different colours and the wide fitting still needs wearing in! Thanks for the visit BJ#39

  36. Hi Elizabeth,

Bluebeard must have woken you up at just the right moment to be Number ONE! Yay!

I've never created masterboards but it sounds perfect! The rocking horse stamps are great - so you.

I agree about all of us knowing eachother so well even though most of us haven't met. I did meet Di (Pixie's Crafty Workshop) when she and Len were here in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It just so happened that they had this vacation scheduled. It was like meeting an old friend. Instant love for eachother.

    Happy WOYWW

Hello Elizabeth and Bluebeard, I have to admit I didn't know about Masterboard until I read about it on the desks, it sounds like a pleasure to work with and I love the rocking horses as the background. I am hoping to do my ATC's this week, fingers crossed. Yoda sends paw pats to Bluebeard and a hug from me.
