I'm once again joining Elle from Empire of the Cat, our host this month at Art Journal Journey. Her theme is Fairytales, Folklore, and Fables - Tell Me A Story.
The question is, which is the poisoned apple? This tale is part of the original Snow White and the evil stepmother Queen who wants to get rid of Snow White and once again be the fairest in the land.
After a couple of failed attempts to get rid of Snow White, the Queen dresses up as a farmer's wife and offers Snow White a poisoned apple. To convince Snow White, the Queen eats the white non-poisoned half and gives Snow White the poisoned red half. She immediately falls into a coma, from which even the dwarfs can't revive her.
The dwarfs place Snow White in a glass casket and prepare for her funeral. Luckily, while on a hunting trip, a prince comes by and offers to take her back to her father's castle for a proper burial. While returning to the castle, a foot soldier carrying the casket stumbles and falls. This causes the poisoned apple lodged in Snow White's throat to dislodge and she is miraculously revived.
Granted, that is not the entire story, but I will leave that for others to explore.
I started this page using a piece of scrapbook paper, to which I added several apples. A couple of the apples came from a grocery flyer, which is the thinnest paper around. Sadly, the grocery paper buckled a bit. However, I think you get the concept of the page. If you can't read my handwriting (and I often can't read it myself), it reads "Which is the poisoned apple?"
Bleubeard and I
are simply thrilled you joined us today, and hope to see you at Art Journal Journey with your own take on Fairytales, Folklore, and Fables -
Tell Me A Story.
You are too hard on yourself. I love your handwriting and am a big fan of fairy stories (though some are very gruesome).
ReplyDeleteThis came out great and you could continue for today with this for mirror, mirror.
ReplyDeleteI already look forward to tomorrow´s fairy, maybe it is Snow White? (we never look it up on purpose)
Some years ago on Christopher Street Day we had one gorgeous Snow White :-)
He was all chubby and in such a great mood! He made everyone smile!
Fabulous page, Elizabeth. I will look at the apples on my kitchen counter very carefully now! Have a great weekend, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI have an apple page coming up also (just another reminder of how great minds think alike-smile). Mine is going to be more Halloween-ish, and I like yours as it is more fairytale-ish. That's a super idea. This is a fun page for Elle's challenge at AJJ. Fun idea. Have a great Saturday my dear. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteWhich apple is the poisoned apple? The Witch Apple, of course. 🎃
ReplyDeleteYou always make me smile with your art. This is so cleaver. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteI like the more romantic version where the Prince awakens Snow White with a kiss.
ReplyDeleteI’m trying to think of the possibilities for which Royal Family member resembles which character in the fairy tale. Queen Camilla IS a step-mother, but she doesn’t seem to have a strong enough character to play the role of the fairy-tale witch/step-mother. It does seem as if she bad-mouthed a younger princess, though. And in some sense (with the connivance of some of the others) banished her. But the parallels aren’t very good. Never mind.

ReplyDeleteHa! Fun version of this classic tale! Which is the poisoned apple indeed?!
ReplyDeleteThis is fun and the apples all look good. I guess I'd be fooled!
ReplyDeleteWell done :)
ReplyDeleteA fun version of this classic tale, I enjoyed your post.
All the best Jan
love how you have linked the apple to the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
ReplyDeleteI had a friend, as a child, who would have been perfect as Show White, she once dressed up as her and whenever I hear of this fairytale I see Gillian.
Not sure which would be the poisoned apple.
Hugs, Neet xxx
Whichever is the most tasty-looking apple, that's the poisoned one ;)
ReplyDeleteI think it came out great, and I didn't have any trouble at all reading your handwriting. I do think fairy tales are a great source for these projects. Like Iris Flavia above, I would like to see what you do with "Mirror, Mirror . . ." Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI love your apple page Elizabeth, and that you used the grocery store flyer for some of them, very handy. That Queen really was relentless wasn't she? Thanks for joining me for the October theme at Art Journal Journey this month Elle/Empire of the Cat xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a clever page for Elle's theme! We've been enjoying apples from our garden, good job none of them are poisened ...lol 😊. Take care! Hugs Jo x
