Today I'm joining Wendy K at Wendy's Craft Journal, our host this month at Art Journal Journey. Wendy's theme is Doors and Arches.
What came to mind was from my favorite horror film, The Wizard of Oz. It's obviously a quote from L. Frank Baum. In case you need a translation, "There is no place like home."
When I changed threads, I got my tension wrong. Both are variegated. The black on the left has tiny indentations which don't show on the scan. As you can see, my scanner is on its last leg. Thanks for taking time to drop by today. Bleubeard and I are very grateful for your visit. We also hope to see you at Art Journal Journey with your own take on Doors and Arches.

That is simply gorgeous - and soooo evocative.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice door!
ReplyDeleteThose famous words in The Wizard are quoted from the song "Home Sweet Home," which dates to 1823, and was wildly popular ever afterwards. I remember singing it as a school child:
"Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home"
The music is by Sir Henry Bishop and the lyrics by John Howard Payne. The audience for the Wizard of Oz in Baum's time would have all known the song, and its tune is played in the background during the relevant scene in the film.

Ii hope you don´t kill me - I never saw or read the Wizard... in fact Ii thought it´s for kids...
ReplyDeleteMay I still visit your blog? ;-)
A beautiful door.
This is lovely Elizabeth... I watched the Wizard of Oz every year as a kid. It used to come on TV in the Fall.. Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteA lovely image and sentiment, and I like the border you created.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteOhh this is beautiful and excellent for the theme. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteThat's a perfect image for this one!
ReplyDeleteI love this piece. It's beautiful. Sorry you had internet issues, dear Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteSweetly done. Use. Wishing you to clear sailing
ReplyDeleteI loved that film as a kid. In fact, I sat through several showings of it once, starting with the first matinee and going right on through till evening, when my family got concerned aobut where I was and came looking for me. I was amazed to see you thought it was a horror story. But then, I was a Baum fan and read so many of his books afterwards - and some of those really were kinda creepy.
ReplyDeleteAs for the door: It's lovely. I find pictures of doors evocative. You just have to wonder what lies over the threshold. Beautiful treatment.
This is lovely.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Nice page for AJJ, and the Wizard of Oz quote fits so well with Kansas. I hope the fact that there is an umbrella by the door doesn't mean a big storm with another tornado (like in the Oz story) is coming. Those flowers are much too pretty. Smile. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteLovely image to use on your page, it looks very homely. Thank you, hugs Wendy.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful page Elizabeth, I like how you stitched the image to the black, it makes the colours pop. There really is no place like home!
ReplyDeleteThat door looks very welcoming, its a fantastic page and I always love how you stitch the images to the page.

This is such a lovely image Elizabeth- I'm pleased to see that it's stopped raining. I guess the inside is very tidy as the umbrella owner didn't want it dripping on the pale (surely?)carpet! You know how I love to see your sewing however it may look! It's a great page for Wendy's AJJ theme. Hugs, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteI would not mind having a door like that :)
ReplyDeleteI have a thing about doors, just love taking photos of them and also have a thing about pretty houses. This is certainly a pretty house and I wonder who lives there? Someone is obviously a very tidy person as her visitor has left her umbrella outside. I wonder why?
ReplyDeleteA delightful page Elizabeth, enhanced by the stitching, of course.
Hugs, Neet xxx
This is a wonderful journal. Great how you came up with it.
