A collage with a single flower

I'm once again joining my friend Sheila, who many of you know as Orange Esmeralda, our host this month at Art Journal Journey.

Her theme is A Single Flower.  And since Try it on Tuesday's latest challenge is Say it with Flowers, I'm once again joining them, too.

Technically, there is only a single flower,

but there are several buds.  I hope Sheila will deem this acceptable.

I found this flower singing in the park

then took it home and placed it in a vase.

I brought a few buds to keep it company.

I was asked to raffle it off

but decided to keep all the tickets
and this lovely flower to myself.
I started this page by coloring a sheet of printer/copier paper using watercolors.  I didn't have the color of purple I needed, so I mixed blue and red together and got this mottled watercolor look.  I had a piece of heavy card stock that I colored the same way, using two colors of green.  I adhered the flower, which started life as a gifted greeting card, to the green background using white glue, which unfortunately buckled both pieces.  I created the collage using sheet music, a music flash card, a word association card, an old library date card, and three tickets from my stash.  I colored four staples with a green Sharpie, after everything else had been adhered using glue stick.  I then stapled the flower assembly to the background.  Finally, I adhered the background and collage to a sheet of 110 lb. card stock to give it strength.

Thanks for joining Bleubeard and me today.  We are really grateful you stopped by.  We would also like to see you at Art Journal Journey and Try it on Tuesday with your take on these two flower inspired themes.

Thanks, too, for your concerns about yesterday.  I am VERY tired right now, and as soon as I link to both challenge blogs, I'm headed to bed.  That means I'm a day behind visiting you, my dear friends, followers, readers, and lurkers.

  4. Hello Elizabeth and Bleubeard.
I enjoyed your amusing story and am glad you kept this pretty flower to yourself, together with the raffle tickets. Flower singing in the park, raffle tickets, extra buds (!!!!) - I had to recheck this interesting story to make sure I had got it right. Extra flower buds are acceptable from you and Bleubeard as a special concession.
I hope yesterday went well and will help some of your health problems.
    Lots of love,
    Sheila

  10. Your lovely page reminds me of a quote by Emerson. I think it's Emerson. Let me check. Yes, it's Emerson. The earth laughs in flowers. I misremembered the quote and thought it was sings, but I bet the laughing is musical too so it works. Take care.

Hope you are keeping well? Hugs Tracey x
