If only that title were true. However, I'm sure you can tell I'm once again joining Rosie at Rosie's Kleine Bastelwelt this month's host at Art Journal Journey with her Spring theme.
I got a little carried away with this page, so I'm going to explain what I did as I show the step out photos.
I'm not sure I completely understand masking, but I tried to mask off the buildings and allow the stamp of the Eiffel Tower to show behind them in the background. 
I once again got out my crayons (Crayola brand) and laid down some colors on the black and white image. I also used a colored pencil and a ruler to create the rain lines. I was so happy with the last time I created something similar, I wanted to try it again. 
I added some raindrop embellishments that I found in my stash. 
The yellow card stock (very heavy) became the backdrop for the piece I will place in my large art journal after I get this spread published on my blog. Over that, I added deli paper I painted. Then I sewed everything together using variegated thread. Finally, I colored the computer generated text and added it to the bottom of the page. 
Materials include crayons, colored pencil, ruler, rubber stamp, raindrop embellishments, deli paper, paint, variegated thread, colored computer generated text, and heavy card stock.I am simply thrilled you chose to spend some time with me today. ReplyDeleteThat's a fun page. It feels a tad bit gothic-not in the black modern way but in the old fashion gothic way. The lone person hurrying along the banks of the Seine to get away from the rain...maybe my imagination is getting the better of me this morning. But this is a clever and fun page. :) Hope your ground is getting very wet but no flooding of your basement. hugs-Erika

I'm glad you're able to find inspiration in the rain. It's been raining again here, too, and I admit to sympathy with your "rain rain go away" sentiment.

Pretty cool Elizabeth. I love using good old crayolas and sometimes scratching back into the surface. This is a great piece and It came out wonderful...xox

ReplyDeleteThis looks fabulous, I love how you brought this scene altogether with the sewing, techniques and the colours you used. The Eiffel tower looks great and I liked the small figure that seems to be having trouble holding the umbrella in the rain.

Very nice, Elizabeth. I love what you accomplish with vintage illustrations that are so charming by themselves. I consider myself masking-challenged as well. I have to think REALLY hard before even attempting it. You did great!

ReplyDeleteI think this is just beautiful, Elizabeth. You can tell you've put a lot of work into it and with very impressive results. (And of course, it's Paris.) But Paris can go wrong really fast -- this doesn't. You have mood, texture, color -- all the right things. I'm really impressed!
