Hearts and Flowers

Today I'm joining Try it on Tuesday with their theme of hearts and flowers, along with Moo-Mania and More whose theme this fortnight is music, and Art Journal Journey where Linda of heARTfuly Inspired has chosen 50 Shades of Red.  It was easy to combine these challenges, because they all have such similar themes.

I started with a page I will add

to my Coll-AH-ge Two altered book.  Since there was sewing on the page, I created it outside the book, then will glue it in place after I take these photos.

The hearts are well documented, but the flowers are a bit deceiving.  After seeing Valerie's post a few days ago, I had to get out my hand and heart stamp and use it, too.

Playing up the part of music was easy with a piece of vintage sheet music and some washi tape gifted me by my friend Cindy at Pink Bird Studio.

It's true, I still can't stamp, but I did my best, adding hearts and heart shaped music notes.

The heart was a napkin I glued over the sheet music and

ginkgo leaves I first painted silver, then adhered to the sheet music.   The ginkgo leaves are intended to represent the flowers, since I had no pressed flowers that I could use.

My friend Susi inspired me to splatter silver paint on the napkin.  I admit, it gives it a certain finished look that I would never have achieved otherwise.

I added a tiny red jewel to the center of the heart

for a bit of dimension.

Here again is my take on my musical version of Hearts and Flowers.

Thanks so much for visiting, and please join me at Art Journal Journey, Moo-Mania and More, and Try it on Tuesday, where each site's mixed media art always provides great eye candy.

  7. Really beautiful hearts and flowers creation dear E!
The napkin makes a wonderful centerpiece with all of your special touches. The washi tape and your stitching really catch my eye.
I miss having my sewing machine set up and will have to learn all over again how to thread the dreaded bobbin ;-(

  9. That quite the romantic page Elizabeth. I love the big frilly heart on the red background- is it napkin? Its especially nice that you could combine so many challenges at once. If only they would all be so easy! :) Stay warm. We're in for some nasty winter weather this weekend. Ugh! Hugs-Erika

  10. that's a really beautiful heart. the jewel and spatters really make it stand out. Combined with the musical notation makes me think of the Bobby Vinton song, "Melody of Love"

  14. Beautiful! And perfect for Valentine's Day. I've always said if I took up another hobby besides writing, that would be it. It seems so useful to be able to make my own cards! I don't think I'm quite artistic enough for that.

  15. Fabulous details and a beautifully created piece Elizabeth.
Love that napkin design on the music and the lovely heart stamps.
I tried gluing down a napkin for the first time last week, wasn't too bad but I then messed the piece up - ooops :)
Hope your having a nice weekend... Gill x
