Journal 52, Week 8: Aromatherapy

I'm joining Chelle today at Journal 52, where Week 8's prompt is Aromatherapy.

This week is all about scent and smell.

Normally, with a quote this long, I would run my used file folder through my printer.  But I can't do that this week, because I have lacy ribbon, as well as a bandaged and three bubble hearts on the opposite side of this spread.
I outlined each of the words with these twistables I've had for years.  They were given to me by my art friend Dana, who thought I might like them because they are easy to grip.  I had some problems getting the caps off the twistables, though, which may be why I haven't used them much.  And they are greasy, leave flakes that rub off onto whatever touches them, and lay down color anywhere they are touched.  No chance to lift the crayon without it leaving a mark.

Having said that, I forged ahead with the wording I outlined, after laying down two colors of lavender acrylic paint on my file folder substrate.

I tried to find a few images that would match the words of the quote,

while also trying to use different colors of twistables on the words.

Forgive my inability to properly draw a peach.  Originally I was going to try to mix the yellow and orange colors to get a nice peachy color, but found they don't mix too well together.

The heart is one I colored using acrylics, then used a heart shaped punch.  The number 8 is for week eight.

A couple of magazine images completed the spread.

I thought a photo showing the various images might help.

And finally, who better to understand scents and aromas than Helen Keller.

In case you had trouble following the quote:
"Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived.  The odors of fruits waft me to my southern home, to my childhood frolics in the peach orchard.  Other odors cause my heart to dilate joyously.    Even as I think of smells, my nose is full of scents of summers gone and ripening fields far away.”
~ Helen Keller
And one final look at the completed journal page.

As always, I am grateful for your visit.  It means so much to me.  Thanks, too, for your continued support of my art.  Your comments keep me going, even if my scanner still isn't (working that is).
