Let's head south . . .

south of the equator, that is.  Working in my 7 Continents altered book, we have landed in Argentina,

specifically Buenos Aires, where colors abound.

The Plaza de Mayo sits in the center of the city

amid high rises and La Casa Rosada.  The houses in the La Boca District

are famous for their color and tourist appeal.

There's more to Argentina than Buenos Aires, though, as the back side of this spread reveals. 

Granted, the richly colored La Boca District is one of the most photographed in Buenos Aires by tourists,

but Iguassu Falls is possibly the most visited area in the country.  Like Niagara Falls straddles the US and Canadian borders, Iguassu Falls straddles the Argentina and Brazil borders.  The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguassu River.  Although the Brazilian side is more widely shown in travel magazines, the Argentinian side is larger.  According to Wikipedia:

The Iguassu Falls are arranged in a way that seems like a reverse letter "J".  The border separates Brazil and Argentina. On the right bank is the Brazilian territory, which has just over 20% of the jumps of these falls, and the left side jumps are Argentine, which make up almost 80% of the falls.

It is much colder at the very bottom of Argentina, where Ushuala is located. 

I normally create an even number of spreads, but this time I had too many pictures (all taken from a travel magazine) and could not fit them all on two pages. 

Known as the "Pink House," this is where the President of Argentina lives.  It is located in Buenos Aires on the east end of the Plaza de Mayo (seen in top spread above).  Unlike the caption, the Italianate portico is seen in the background.  BTW, I have corrected the mistake on my page, but failed to rescan it.

La Recoleta Cemetery is located in the Recoleta neighborhood of Buenos Aires. It contains the graves of notable people, including Eva Perón and presidents of Argentina.  It is the most famous cemetery in Argentina.  According to Viatar.com:

While it may seem odd that one of Buenos Aires’ principal tourist attractions is a cemetery, the Recoleta Cemetery is no ordinary graveyard. Encircled by a towering perimeter wall and entered via a striking columned portico, Recoleta Cemetery is one of the world’s most exquisite necropolises; a glorious ‘City of the Dead’ that houses some of the country’s most prominent political, military and artistic icons.

Lake Argentino is located in the Patagonian province of Santa Cruz.  According to Wikipedia:

The lake lies within the Los Glaciares National Park, in a landscape with numerous glaciers and is fed by the glacial meltwater of several rivers.

It is the largest fresh water lake in Argentina.

Perito Moreno Glacier is located in Los Glaciares National Park.  It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Argentine Patagonia, a region in the southern tip of South America.  The area known as Patagonia is shared by Argentina and Chile.

I learned a lot while researching this area, especially since everything was so new to me.  Thanks for sharing this, our first visit to South America.  I assure you, there will be several more to come!  After all, there are twelve sovereign states: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
