Craft Barn's 12th quotes and/or lyrics prompts are Proud and Vintage.
Since all the DT examples used the word Proud, I decided to go with Vintage. And other than the obvious vintage and Victorian images I have, which is where I first considered going, I found this great quote and chose some vintage wine instead.
The quote is by Logan Pearsall Smith, who was an American writer (1865-1946). Now before you think I cut this using a die cutter, you would be wrong. I was gifted with a couple of die cuts and used one as a template after I printed the quote on some beige card stock.
The substrate for this fortnight's challenge is a file folder cut in half lengthwise and the background is a napkin or serviette as I believe they are called elsewhere. The row of wine bottles and openers is a freebie I picked up at a big box home improvement store years ago. Instead of offering samples of their wall paper borders, this store offered these small runners for examples one could take home, much like they still offer paint chips.
I used stickers to show this was the 12th challenge.

This is great Elizabeth. The wine theme coulds very well with your rich background. Nice quote and good and well done using the die cut as a template! Your cutting skills are pretty impressive - I wouldn't have guessed it was hand cut (mine would have probably had a big wonk in it somewhere!).

ReplyDeleteI love this page, even though I don't drink at all. As for the mask - yes I have one of those ridiculous masks but I don't wear it. I really think it is a personal choice, but my opinion is that you get more chemicals from smog every day and the little bit of soldering I do is not really going to add much to my intake.

ReplyDeleteYour collage is a treat to look at. You mentioned that you used a napkin on top of your base file folder...what adhesive did you use? The napkin looks so smooth.

ReplyDeleteI don't normally leave a reply on MY blog, preferring to leave one on yours. But since there's no place to leave a comment on yours, and no place to send an e-mail, I hope you return to see my response to your question about glue.
As a rule, I'm not one to use glue stick. It simply doesn't hold over time. However, when it comes to something as thin as tissue, handmade paper, or napkins, it's the only way I've found that doesn't ruin the napkin.
I always lay a generous amount of glue stick all over the substrate (NOT the napkin). I recheck to see if I've missed any part of the substrate and reapply if there are bare spots. That's why good lighting (or lots of natural light) is crucial. I make sure the napkin is hand pressed before applying, then I try to make sure I don't get many wrinkles when I adhere it to the substrate. Don't worry. You can't avoid a few, even though you try not to. Look closely at mine, and you'll definitely see I have some. The idea is to minimize them, unless you want lots of texture, in which case ignore the above and wrinkle the napkin prior to applying it to your substrate.

Love your collage... all these wine labels make me light headed already! I saw many quotes about vintage clothes but that was mainly celebrities clamouring they love of vintage clothing, yawn... This is a much better choice.
