APR: Series

I have no time to create anything new this week, but if you come back either Friday or Saturday, you will see what has kept me so busy in the studio. Hopefully I'll be finished by Friday, but the absolute deadline is Saturday, August 4.

Jenn's Artist Play Room at Just Add Water, Silly is asking us to show a series. Now I bet many of you are thinking I'm going to show rocking horses, but that series has been shown before on my blog, on Seth Apter's blog, and on Inspiration Avenue's blog.

So today I dug out a collage I made in 2008 (since some of you are newer visitors) which I subsequently gave away. Now I realize shoes, unlike rocking horses, quickly go out of style and favor (unless you are wearing Princess style Reebok tennis shoes whose style has remained unchanged for over 15 years and I wear exclusively), but I thought you might enjoy seeing the shoe style way back in the good old bygone days of 2008! I call it Shoe Fetish and copied it from my blog. Here is part of what I wrote about the piece:
I was surprised at the wide variety of shoe styles this year. Usually, the heels are either big and clunky, or skinny and spiked, but not in the same year. (By the way, I'll take my Reebok Princess style tennis shoes any day!)
Unfortunately, when I copied the image to this post, it was quite small in this size,

and HUGE when I copied it in this size. At least you can see all the details of these shoes, all of which I cut from various magazines popular in 2008. The background contains various book pages cut to size. Come to think of it, this could be a series on shoes and a series on book pages! Please visit APR for other Series entries.

  1. Great collage. I have a friend here who loves shoe and always wear heels. Won't catch me in them anymore. During the 80's when I worked in downtown New Orleans, I wore suits with short skirts and very high heels. Now give me ballet flats and comfy tennie shoes. Happy August to you! Tammy

  2. You continue to be busy despite the heat; admirable. Am just about back where I want to be in terms of routine, so things are working out a bit now! Hope your penultimate day to deadline is going very smoothly. Was shattered by the tree removal pics. My first thought was about shade and protection, and I'm willing to bet it was all about 'light'. Huge shame. And a giggle at the tape and zipper story...I've done exactly the same at the 'tape store' and although like you, I will use it, man it made me so mad..apart from anything else because the 5mm tape is just so puny!! Off to do grown up things with lawyers now, this getting old thing - not for sissys!!

  3. Wonderful collage Elizabeth! Scary heel heights, but I used to wear them myself. And I too know someone who LOVEs shoes and rivals Imelda Marcos in the number of pairs she owns..I'm typing quietly as I see it is half past silly o'clock with you and am trying not to waken you. Sweet dreams :0)

  4. Great collage. I like the details like that tiny shoe under the blue shoe and that three shoes are "pointing left" while the rest point right. All set against the book page background - really works!

  5. What a winner...who doesn't like shoes Elizabeth? This collage is great.
I love heels but only wear them on certain occasions....like tomorrow's Date Night!!! ;D
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  6. I wouldn't know what was in or out with shoes...or bags...or make-up...or clothes. I've been told I'm not a real girl--LOL! Now at least I know what was in style in 2008. ;)

  7. If we wait long enough, any style seems to come back again! Those spiky heels--ouch! Won't find me in anything like that. I much prefer Rockport sneakers!

  8. What a fun collage - I was never one for really high heel, even when younger. However, I'm not a fan of the ubiquitous tennis shoe either. I own a pair but wear them only when hiking or camping. Otherwise my shoe of choice is flip flops from the first quasi warm day and during the winter I'm a mule wearer....nothing with a back for me, thanks! (weird foot issues, sigh) I've been thinking about my series and have a couple ideas I'm going to try to do today.....

  9. I haven't seen that piece before....VERY NICE! You cut all those shoes out with sissors (you've said before that you don't use an X acto)? You are amazing!

  10. You are a master with those scissors, Elizabeth. U put me to shame.

  13. I love shoes, and it's one of my bygone fetishes since I'm not working and don't have to dress up anymore...I kinda miss them too! Don't miss working though! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

  14. I love this collage and what woman wouldn't like to peek at shoes. My daughter has a shoe fetish and has way too many pairs. I was reading a sales catalogue the other day and there was jewellery with rocking horses, I thought of you immediately, see you're famous!!

  16. Love the shoe collage... in my day I would wear the highest, pointiest, daftest shoes that were in style... and then one day I went into a shoe shop and tried on a flat pair and thought 'yay, these are comfy'!! Haven't seriously worn heels since and I now see that as the point when I matured (or got old depending on your viewpoint)!!

  18. Wonderful collage, Elizabeth! My feet are screaming out in pain just looking at some of those heels. LOL

  19. wonderful and painful reminders of those days when... actually, I never really liked nor intentionally wore "heels" heels, I am a barefooter. Of course real Life and weather extremes made me adapt so that I really am only barefoot at home anymore.

  20. I believe fashions can be a reflection of what's going on in history sometimes. However, shoes are definitely a reflection of a person's personality and social status. Blessings!

  21. Awesome collage! I have a secret love of shoes. I adore high heels and no reason to wear them. I'd look silly sporting some 4" heel, a t-shirt and ratty shorts. *lol* I still love to drool over them. You'll find me barefoot most days! Warmly, Tracy P.S. I love the pictures of Bluebeard... reminds me so much of my LadyCats (she passed away several years ago). She too was that beautiful gray/blue color.

  23. Great collage... sorry I am late... big weekend around here... anyway love all the shoes... I have a few pairs that I wear faithfully and miss wearing heels every day, but after wearing them faithfully for years while I was teaching it is now not so great for my back... hate getting older... heels always feel grown up to me...xx
