All Hail

Today is about a different kind of hail. See yesterday's post for the hail storm that hit my house.

I have a lot of British pride. I think that's why I fit so well with my British friends from WOYWW. Today I'm hailing the Queen with photos taken from her official web site, the Diamond Jubilee web site, or the Jubilee event sites. This photo was taken of her before she was Queen.

I was not born when this photo was taken on June 2, 1953, but years later, my Grandmother (who was British through and through) insisted I be named for the Queen (Of course, Bleubeard is a different story!).

Apparently the Queen likes her horses and was a good rider and breeder (of horses, that is). She will attend the Epsom Derby today to start the weekend festivities that will continue through June 5 (or 5 June, if you live on her side of the pond).

She will also lead a Flotilla on the Thames tomorrow.

All this is to celebrate sixty years on the throne. In the words of my British friends, "All Hail the Queen."

  2. Oh I never realised you were named after the Queen! I think that more than entitles you to hold your own celebrations this weekend - Pimms and strawberries all round ha ha!

  4. I am a dabbling anglophile...but since this is my busy time of year, I haven't paid much attention to it....since I have to spend the weekend correcting papers, I'm sure I'll watch some of the celebration..

  5. Hi Elizabeth,
Sorry I've inadvertently mislead you. I moved over to this side of the country nearly 10 years ago. I loved the Miro sculptures at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, I loved all the sculptures and as I indicated there were a lot more than I managed to snap. Thanks for the link I'll check them out later. BTW I'm not admitting to having been born when that picture of the Queen was taken haha.

  6. We will be celebrating this weekend with an outdoor barbecue - which our British neighbors say is how the Queen wants her day to be celebrated.

  7. What fun images you are sharing today! The queen has certainly had a long reign and I think she is well respected by all...and pretty cool for you to be named after her! I think that you should be entitled you your own crown...a recycled one that says 'queen of free.' (grin) have a lovely weekend!

  8. I do remember the coronation. We had a parade and fancy dress competion that i won, dressed as English weather, in a bathing suit carrying an electric fire and hot waterbottle. Fortunately there are no photos. it rained on an off the whole time.

  11. The Queen... God bless her! Thank you for sharing these lovely images of Her Majesty. I was 3 days old when she was crowned - my mum was still in hospital, and they had a TV there so all the new mums could watch the Coronation! This event has always held a special place in my heart, as has the first ascent of Everest (which was achieved on my actual birthday) and I always think about them each year on my birthday.
