Mask and stencils

It may not look like much because it's all I have today, but I'm so proud of this piece I made yesterday.

I started by laying down some watercolors (pink and yellow), then made a mask for the hair while that was drying. I used repositionable glue to hold down the mask, first one direction, then flipped to the other. When these watercolors were dry, I added the love stencil and punchinella (sequin waste) using dye ink and a finger daubber. Then I used my new black acrylic paint to outline the hair. I finished it off with two birds in the hair of one of the images. Feel free to enlarge to see the details. This piece is 8.5 X 11 and I am thrilled with the outcome, even though it is simple. I've made so few things lately that turned out well, this put a smile on my face.

And since I am stenciling, I thought a few of my readers might not know how to make their own stencils. So I found a web site devoted to just that. It is called Spray Paint Stencils. The tutorial for making your own reusable stencils is far better than anything I could offer. It is here. If you click on the first link, which is their homepage, you will find a ton of images you can use to make your own stencils. Thought you might like to try your hand at one. Have a great Thursday.

  4. OOOOOOOOoh, I like that, very cool. Elizabeth have you been involved with Yahoo groups over the years? With Belinda? I remember an Elizabeth in the groups when I was participating, just wondering. Thanks for the link for the stencils. I think I might try that for some leaf shapes that I have been collecting this summer. :)Bea

  12. I will wait until they go on sale...they were quite expensive for my budget right now so I will wait a little longer to play...Lovely images. Are the fabrics still soft when you have heat set them? Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart
