End of June herb garden update

I hadn't planned to update my herbs so quickly again, but I didn't have time to create any art today.

I was thrilled with the flowers on the Bee Balm (Bergamot/Oswego tea)

Although I bought this primarily to attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds,

I also learned it was one of the drinks adopted by colonists in the states during their boycott of British tea. The leaves are used to flavor punches, lemonade, and other cold drinks. Maybe I could try it for T Tuesday sometime.

Although it's hard to see

my Comfrey is blooming again.  Look directly above my watermark for the flowers.

Maybe you can see it better

when the sun is directly overhead.

I'll be picking my Genovese Basil sometime next week.

I finally cleaned the weeds out of my chives.

Now they may have a fighting chance.  I see my tarp is starting to break down in more than one or two places.

I also cleaned up my Russian Sage.

Yes, I mowed!  I was getting tired of walking in grass up to my ankles.

Is it my imagination, or is my thyme growing by leaps and bounds?

Speaking of growing, this is lavender I bought recently at a nursery, not on Herb Day.

It's doing well, as is the Oregano next to it.

I promise no more herb updates until at least mid July.  Thanks for stopping by today.  I am glad you dropped in to visit.  Bleubeard and Squiggles refuse to help in the garden since I failed to buy cat mint and cat grass for them this year.

  2. I never knew about Bee Balm - must ask at the nursery! And I look forward to your experience with the blooms in a drink.
Your herbs grow wonderful! Mine always die quickly... Maybe too shady on the balcony...

  3. P.S. I looked up how it´s called in German... funny enough it falls in the category Indianernessel, Indian nettle, and the plant itself goes by the name Goldmelisse, Gold balm.

  5. I enjoy your herb updates so I don't think you need to hold them off until Mid-July. Of course that isn't so far off, is it? Your bee-balm and comfy looks great. I love bee-balm flowers, but I didn't know you could use the leaves in drinks. Cool. I'm glad you shared these. Have a super Saturday. hugs-Erika

  13. Your herb updates are wonderful! I would love to know how you use them. Our herbs are growing well also, and you have inspired me to go take some photos of them, and add them to the post I am working on. We used our basil for dinner yesterday — my sister made caprese salad (basil, cheese, tomato).
