Today we introduce a new host, as we do the first day of every month. This month, it is my dear friend Neet (Anita) at Hickydorums. The theme she has chosen this month is Fur and/or Feathers.
"Spring has sprung, The flowers have ris, I wonder where the birdies is." I've changed the words to match the focal entry. It is normally written "Spring is sprung, the grass is ris, I wonder where the birdies is." 
Both fur and feathers are featured in this adorable painting I found in a calendar.
Doing an internet search, I learned the poem is sometimes called "The Brooklyn National Anthem," which dates back to at least 1940. There are many versions of it. Now I've added yet another.
These bunnies were originally a postage stamp that I enlarged and reversed before fussy cutting them.
I started this sheet of 110 lb cardstock by mixing shades of blue and green Staz-on reinkers with 91% isopropyl alcohol. I added the focal image, which I found in a lovely old calendar. To it, I added the Spring has sprung poem that is normally used on the vernal equinox. According to the astronomical definition of the seasons, the vernal equinox also marks the beginning of spring. The page looked and felt a bit bare, so I added the bunnies, as I described above.Neet, Chris, Erika, Valerie, Bleubeard, and I

ReplyDeleteI love this spring fur and feather page Elizabeth. That's such a pretty image, and so full of wonderful things. In some ways it would be nice if it was spring again so we could start summer instead of almost ending it-smile. But happy September to you. I hope it's a great start to new month. Hugs-Erika

Spring seems so long ago!
ReplyDeleteOur friends in Australia are indeed happy to see spring coming this week! My uncle used to quote that poem. His thoughts usually dated to more like the 20s. Evidently there are a few print versions of this in the 1930s, but it's mostly oral history.

ReplyDeleteDear Elizabeth - thank you so much for your message of sympathy on the passing of our Queen Elizabeth. It was expected from the moment the news came out that the family had all been sent for but it still came with a jolt to the heart when the dreaded words were spoken.
ReplyDeleteThe end of an era, she was a good Queen and will be sadly missed - God Save the King.
