I'd like to begin by wishing my friend Valerie a very happy birthday. I hope you will do the same when you visit her blog today.
I had planned to share my Christmas cards and tip-in that I have received, but I got a couple more today. It is too late to photograph them in time for T Tuesday, plus they need to sit in quarantine for three days before I spray and open them. Instead, one of the newer T Tuesday gang is Kokopelli of Kokopelli Designs. Last week she shared her Advent Calendar and contents from some of the days. If you missed the post, you should check it out. Think Legos!
I decided to share my advent calendar I made many years ago from velvet jewelry boxes. I'm sure by now, you know I decorate my home with trees each year, and this was the one I made when I wanted an advent calendar. Some of you have already seen this tree, but it may be new to some.
It's hard to see the details because the sun is shining through my mini-blinds, as you can see from this photo. My advent calendar represents any and everything that can be used in altered art or an altered book.
Here are the first three days. The felt star sits on the top of the tree for Day 1. Day 2 uses three buttons and two toothpicks. Day 3 has some tiny playing cards.
This side view shows a close up of the outsides from Day 2 through Day 6.
For Day 4, I embedded a clock face and innards in a standard 35mm 2" x 2" slide mount. Also, I added two photo corners. I think this must have been a red letter day!
Days 5 and 6 are shown together here. Day 5 has a tiny brass elephant with tiny palm trees in the background. The background is a small version of part of a wallpaper
border sample. Day 6 has two postage stamps.
I have now opened boxes 7 through 10.
I chose various game pieces to hide behind Day 7. The bingo chip sits next to another game piece in the back, while the car with the little people are from the game of Life.
For Day 8, I used a domino and a game tile. I can no longer remember the name of the game, though.
For Day 9, a close up reveals it's a rubber stamp of a hand and a past due
announcement I created on the computer and printed on my handmade paper. I see Day 10 is open, but failed to get a close-up. That will have to come at a later time.
It's now time to share my drink of the week. I have poured eggnog and topped it with a shake of nutmeg.
The trees and Christmas colors
encircle this mug.
Some of the greens are starting to die, but the poinsettia seems to be holding its own. I turned the container to hide the black leaves. I should have left them, but I have started to rotate the plant every three days.
I'm sure by now, most of you know the rules. Please share your own drink
related post. It can be
gifts you received, photos, a place you visited, movies, postcards, mail
art, junk mail, catalogs, books, sketches, mixed
media, drawings, paintings, tags, scrapbooking, or other art that is
digital, hybrid, or traditional, as long as it in some way relates back
to a drink, any drink. Regardless,
please share below and Bleubeard and I, along with the rest of the T
gang will be by to visit. Please link only your T post and not your
blog in general. Bleubeard would like to remind you that old photos are acceptable because they may be taken
any time, not just on Tuesday and not just this year.
I hadn't seen it before and I think your velvet jewelry box advent tree filled with altered art components is absolutely fabulous! It's ingenious and lovely. I wonder if you've used all the little gifts inside yet.
I love your advent calendar, Elizabeth. It's fun and very clever. The boxes are a fun idea and I love that you tie it into your tree theme! Happy week to you!
That is a cool advent calendar. I don't remember seeing it before, so I am glad you showed it. It makes a great decoration, and it is a clever idea. And your plant is looking good, at least from this view. I've had poinsettias I've kept going right through to the next holiday. And I'll join you for some eggnog and I'll bring some cookies. Smile. Have a wonderful T day. Hugs-Erika
Hi Elizabeth. I love your advent calendar-very clever with the jewelry boxes-great idea making it into a tree too. Love your Christmas mug and with eggnog When I bought my eggnog I had read the ingredients a couple times to make sure there was no alcohol in it-and there is none-they kinda used a play on words that some may be disappointed to find no alcohol haha but that's what I wanted too just plain. the brand was nice-thick and creamy. Happy T and Merry Christmas
Love the idea of using jewelry boxes for an advent calendar. So Fun! Your planter still looks lovely and your eggnog is a constant reminder that I need to get some or make some! Happy Tea Day, Kate
Love your calendar! Will have to look if I find the ones I made for my Nieces, you´ll probably give them a smile :-) Thank you for hosting! This is really so much fun!
Our Advent calendar is shaped like a tree, too! Sweet :) I hope your plant survives to spend time on your porch, even if the poinsettia doesn't last past Christmas. Happy T Tuesday!
Wow, what a fabulous advent calender! So much fun to open one of those boxes each day and see what's beautiful artwork is inside 😀. I'm loving your festive tree mug and so lovely to see your plant doing so well too! Happy T Day! Hugs, Jo x
What a lovely idea to use jewelry boxes for your advent tree. All those little bits and pieces. I suppose you could change them over the years. The game tile you didn't remember the name of is Rummicub. Your mug is very festive and the contents (eggnog) even more so. Yummy! Happy T-Day and Happy Christmas, Lisca
Yes, Andrea from Kokopelli, and I have been friends for 20 years. I will have to check on that. She is an amazing artist in so many venues. We connected instantly over bow hunter. It is amazing how the internet has brought us together from different counties. I love your calendar! What an exceptional idea. Just brilliant. Have a nice day today.
I love this advent calendar - what a great idea! We were given one that contains little chocolates - we open it every two days so we have a chocolate each! Your Christmas plant pot is doing well - your mug looks so good in front of it! Hugs, Chrisx
I came back to tell you the earthquakes aren't coming from Oklahoma this time. They are coming from a fault right under us out here. The epic center of most the quakes are right here at 13th & Greenwich! We had another at 2:41 this morning but only a 2.2. Merry Christmas, again! :)
Your thoughts are very important to Bleubeard and me. I appreciate it when you care enough to stop by and even more when you leave a short message letting me know you were here.

Your advent calendar is great fun. Enjoy your eggnog, happy T Day! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteSad to say, I forgot to water my pointsetta so it's kind of droopy. Yours seems much healthier! I hope your Christmas week is very great.
