My internet friend CJ has this weekly post where she shows her garden. She calls it "how does your garden grow?"
I have to admit that mine doesn't grow at all in the winter.
This was early December. 
Even my rose bush looks dead, but hopefully it's only dormant.
My pine tree is shedding needles right and left. 
My holly, which has never gotten any red berries on it, is encroaching on the pine tree, now. 
This area has filled with leaves. Fast forward to two days ago,
and this is what the garden looks like in mid January. 
I'm hoping the pumpkins I bought for autumn decorations will disintegrate and maybe some of the seeds will sprout.
My rose bush still looks bad, as does my pine tree. 
Most of the leaves have been blown here and yon in this area, though. Thanks for joining me this blustery January day in my flower bed.
Your garden looks wintry. Most gardens here are kept looking pristine and decorative even in winter, they must be very dedicated people. My balcony just has some dead plants, but I've got hyacinths in the kitchen. Valerie

ReplyDeleteAt least you don't have about 4 inches of snow and ice so because you have heavenly bare ground, I have to say I love your garden. Do any gardens look fabulous in the winter? Once the seasons change and things green up gardens always look so much more exciting. Happy Monday. Hugs-Erika

Hi Elizabeth. It's lovely to see your garden, they are quite different to ours. I noticed you mentioned about your Holly bush not having berries and I may be telling you something you know already but did you understand that you need a male and female plant to get berries. Your garden looks as cold as mine, but I love the anticipation of what's coming as Spring approaches. It will be fun to see if you end up with a pumpkin patch. I gave up on roses. Had several bushes, but all they did was attract Japanese beetles no matter how much we powdered, and a couple of special varieties couldn't handle the Winters. They were too fussy to maintain so out they came.

Winter always makes the garden look a little sad, even here is CA. We have had some frosty mornings and I noticed some of the more tender plants have died back. I think it all makes spring look more glorious when all the colors come back.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing growing on my patio, and everything is sleeping here as it is there. I get some of the leaves up -there are too many to leave in my small space- but I do leave some over the beds around the edges for the birds to sift through. I look forward to seeing your yard once Spring is here :)
ReplyDeleteYou have a large garden space and I think a lot of us have ones that look like that. I do (only MUCH smaller!). Most of the time at this time of year, mine is under snow -- not this year... That'll probably happen in April!
