The Autumnal Equinox

Depending on where you live in the world (based on those pesky time zones), today is the day we in the northern hemisphere celebrate the Autumnal Equinox.  It is the day when night and day are virtually equal in length.

I had Yvonne of Meggy's Way who is hosting Art Journal Journey this month with her theme Colo(u)r in my World in mind when I created this piece I call Autumnal Equinox.

Because the lighting is so bad in my dining room where I normally photograph my pieces, I decided to scan this entry.  Materials include a used file folder, several of my handmade shimmering mists, colored pencils, and a real leaf.

This is actually a prototype of a piece I want to make for a Christmas gift.  Instead of a used file folder, I'll use an old book cover.  Do you think it could be gift worthy?

It's been so hot and dry here (in the mid 90s F/30+ C yesterday), it 's hard to believe autumn has truly arrived.

Thank you for joining me today as I observe the Autumnal Equinox.  You will also find me hanging out at Art Journal Journey where my colors today are those inspired by autumn.

  5. Good morning wow what a beautiful page Elizabeth, one can smell the Autumn in the air now here in the UK. I do think it is a lovely time of year, especially picking blackberries in the hedgerows.

    Big hugs x

I love the autumn colours and the single leaf framed with the fine circles draws the eye so well.
I love the 'colours in your word' today Elizabeth, they made me wish for a still autumn morning, no sound, just peace and serenity all around.

  11. It's a lovely piece. The circles make me think of the blustery winds. Of course, your piece is gift worthy. What you should ask is the recipient worthy of your hand-done work? Will they appreciate all that you put into the creation? Materials, time, and a bit of your soul?

  12. An exclusive composition - and for sure worth to be used as a gift!
Such a beautiful and interesting play of colors - that really captures autumn with a hint of summer! Oh - I would be happy about 30°Celsius - we need the heating since more than a week here. Nearly frost during the nights. I am freezing the whole time even though I have put my winter wardrobe out.
Thank you so much for such a beautiful post and piece for Art Journal Journey to celbrate the Autumnal Equinox.
    Happy weekend dear Elizabeth!

  13. I love it! It is indeed the Autumnal Equinox and I love autumn. Driving home from a friend's today I noticed the trees are starting to turn to a lovely golden colour (some of them, depends on the variety I guess) and I look forward to seeing the lovely glow of autumn, cuddling up in front of the fire (albeit gas) in warm clothes. I love autumn.
Love to you, Squiggles and, of course, Bleubeard himself xxx
    Hugs, Neet xx
