Today I'm joining our wonderful and generous host
Kristin at
Twinkle, Twinkle Like a Star for the fourth installment of Summer of Color.

Since we need two reds this week and I have lots of red, I decided to see which fluid acrylic red most closely matched the red bingo dabber I planned to use on the wooden block.

Red is tricky. There are warm reds and there are cool reds. But late last night, all these reds looked PINK to me.

I finally decided on the cool red that most closely matched my wood.

I used a stencil sent me by Corrine of Sparkle Days Studio and added the gold by hand. I sewed around the assembly after I added one of the painted pieces I had rejected to the back to give the fabric a bit more body.

It's amazing what a bit of sunlight does for this assemblage.

Sometimes the colors look good and other times they look washed out.

And sometimes the assemblage looks pink.

I created a few step out detail shots for your perusal.

You can never have too many detail shots.

The closer you get to the piece, the more red it looks.

And once in awhile, you even get a glimpse of gold that looks like gold.

A play on metallic, I chose to turn this into a semi-steampunk piece. After all, dear sweet
Kristin didn't tell us we couldn't use real metal, did she? I hope you like it, because it may have taken me even longer than last week's entry.
Thanks go to everyone who visited last week. I tried to get to everyone, but my internet went down on Friday, and I may have lost track of who I had visited by the time I was able to get back online. If I missed you, I apologize, but please be aware, I still can't leave comments to those on Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Tumblr, Pinterest, and some Goggle + blogs. But I look at, admire, and appreciate any I can see that aren't marked private.
glorious mix of color and love the hardware!
ReplyDeleteI love how the hardware shapes and forms are repeated in the stencil - or is it vice versa? Anyhoo, it came out great.
ReplyDeleteI've your creativeness. Great use of the colors.

Your pieces are so original. Love that you paint on fabric. Its sumptuous with the gold pieces. I know just what you mean about red looking like pink, especially late at night! Your art is a lovely example of red red gold.
