Summer of Color, Week 2: pink, pink, orange

This is Week Two of Summer of Color, or SOC, and the colors Kristin at Twinkle Twinkle Like A Star has chosen for us

are pink, pink, and orange.  I chose another piece from a bed sheet, this one in pale pink, magenta acrylic paint, and orange craft paint.  I also tore more of my white pillowcase in order to dye it orange.

I decided to work on a wooden block I cut for the piece.  I realized I'd have to sand the top and bottom because I think my saw blade is getting dull.  Yes, I'm a power tool lover.

After sanding the wooden block, I painted it with a wash of the magenta acrylic.  Then I dyed the pillowcase using a recipe I found in a book written by Ruth Rae.  Basically, it's half water, half paint, but because I only had craft paint, I decided to use a bit less water and more paint.

Fast forward two days and all of the dyeing is complete and dry, the pieces have been sewn together, and I'm now ready to assemble the piece.

I thought I would show it in this stage, before I added the embellishments.  This is the first time I've ever used a good stencil, so I didn't do a very good job.  But you can see I used variegated yellow/orange thread, which is all I had in orange.

It was late when I tried to photograph this, so the colors are not the best in my craft room.

No matter what direction I faced it, the colors are simply not representative of the piece.

Using PhotoShop, I attempted to color compensate to get the true colors of the completed assemblage.

Next, I wrapped orange wire around a piece of bark from my tree, and added a pink feather.

I also brushed the higher portions of the bark with orange paint.

The feather is much closer to the magenta color of the fabric, but I didn't try to color compensate.

Although I ran out of time visiting, I got to most of you last week.  However, I noticed some of you are on social media sites I'm not a member of.  These include Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Tumblr, Goggle +, and Pinterest, to name the ones I remember.  Since I'm not a member of any of these sites, I can't leave comments, and if you're on Facebook, there were a couple I couldn't even see your artwork.
