SOC, Week 6: Sage and Sepia

Kristin, our thoughtful and considerate hostess at Twinkle, Twinkle has once again allowed us to pick our two colors for this final week of play.  I'm so glad I got to play this year, and plan to as long as Kristin has this wonderful summertime challenge.  And of course, I am always delighted that she has dragged me out of my comfort zone and given us color combinations I would never have played with had it not been for her SOC challenge.  Bless you, dear Kristin.

Once again, I was not exactly thrilled with these colors, because to me they scream vintage.  I'm fairly certain those of you who voted for these colors probably had something vintage-y in mind when you chose them.  Having said that, I set out to make something with a bit of vintage flair to it, using my limited supply of sage and vintage goodies.

The background was made the same as how I made last week's.  This time, however, I spread three paint colors around using a plastic gift card.  I was trying to create sage and sepia with the colors I had on hand.

Many of you noted last week that the colors that came out of my camera were way off, compared to the scan.  This week, that same old camera took a better representation of my piece than the scan.  You may be wondering about my "new"  camera I unveiled on Tuesday of last week.  In all truth, it died--not exactly died, but the battery did, and I have no charger to charge it.  Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.  But, back to the photo.  I assure you, this photo is a truer representation of Sage and Sepia as I envisioned and created it.

There are no settings on this little camera, so I saved the best shot I could find out of 16 in order to show the dimension of this piece that I knew would be lost when I scanned it.

Over the scraped background, I sewed dressmaker's tissue and a piece of old player piano paper that was so brittle, it broke in two places before I got it sewed.  Thankfully, my dear friend Annette sent me a foam template of the die cut dress mannequin.  I used it to dry brush the image onto the page.  Next, I added the seam binding at the top, then cut the ribbon holders from paint chip samples.  Finally, I added three ribbons I thought would compliment sage and sepia.

Thanks again Kristin for taking time out of your summer to host this awesome event.

Please don't forget to visit Kristin for links to the other players in this challenge.  I know they appreciate your visit as much as I.

Not sure what Kristin has planned for next week, but I'll be back to show my SOC book I plan to make.

  16. I loved this colour combo although I didn't vote for it. I do love a bit of vintage! I know what you mean about the scanner - mine came out more lime green than sage when I scanned it. I like this piece - the dressmaker's dummy, lace and pattern are beautifully vintage!

  31. I stocked up on my Kaiser Colour Acrylic paints when I went to Ally Pally in April and had dithered about picking up the Sage colour. I loved the colour but wasn't sure I would ever use it. So glad I did as I finally cracked the seal this week. It's beautiful and I'll definitely use it much more now.

Love your piece, all that sewing and texture is gorgeous.

  40. I wanted to come by and thank you for the comment on my Project Life pos. Glad you could enjoy it. That is my whole heart and soul in those PL albums now going on 5 years.
This week was busy and so I did a post on a walk thru my garden. The colors aren't the SOC but they will have to work for this week.
It's been so nice to meet you this summer and enjoyed all your SOC art each week. It took me out of my comfort zone too. Hope to pop in over time to see what's new with you. I love that you were first to link each week, so cool and committed you were to this challenge.
Take care and see you tomorrow for Kristin's last SOC post.
